Any mountain bikers??

I thought I had found my perfect bike until I ran into someone yesterday that was riding on a reign. He let me ride it for a few minutes and I as well let him try my anthem. It was a very nice change being able to throw the bike to where I wanted to. Descents and jumps were easier as well. Also the 2 more inches of suspension is friggin awesome. I might have to demo some bikes and reconsider my riding style, terrain and wheel size. Here's a pic with my dawg.

The Reign is a really nice ride. It's definitely biased a little more towards descending than the Anthem is. It won't climb quite as well (but still not bad). I probably would have bought one (Reign X) if we had a sensible Giant dealer here. Then I would have had money left over for a steel hardtail. I love my Tracer2 but the Reign gets pretty close to that level of performance at a significantly lower price point.

I saw this pic on mtbr, BTW. :D

Happy new year!

Update on my riding...Over the past two months my riding has seen significant improvement and has gone from xc to a more 'all mountain'. Since my last post, I've befriended a group of guys who are more into the downhill aspect of riding. We've been shuttling up some local trails and I can start to feel the disadvantages my xc 29er beast has. The trails I've been riding have been far more technical, many switchbacks, jumps, drops, and step ups. There's lots of times I need to walk my bike because the jump is either too big or a turn is too tight. I'm LOVING the technical terrain but my xc bike just can't handle what I am asking it to do. After my first ride down a local trail one of the guys asked me, "so you all downhiller now?" I replied with, "not yet" but I'm starting to lean more and more towards that. Also, currently trying to sell my anthem for a 26" all mountain or a downhill bike (if I find a good deal). After seeing a friend get over 22 stitches on his face, I have bought shin guards, knee pads, elbow pads and a full face helmet. I feel much safer now. haha

I rocked out on the bass for the first time in over two months and I had a blast. I almost forgot how it felt to play music with others. I can't seem to play bass by myself anymore. My new years resolution this year is to start a band and play a show.

If you buy a dedicated DH rig, pedaling it anywhere is pretty much not going to happen so you might want to hang onto the Anthem for XC rides.

If you're only going to have one bike, something in the 6+6" range with relatively slack angles (66-67 degree head angle) is the way to go. Something like a Reign X, Specialized Enduro, Intense Tracer2 (like mine), etc. Every manufacturer has bikes in this category. I sold a DH bike and an XC bike for my T2 and I don't miss either of them. It really handles all kinds of terrain. Not quite as fast up things as the XC bike and not quite as fast down them as the DH bike, but overall more fun.

Not gonna happen bassteban...just snagged this glory for hella cheap. Yesterday I went uphill for 2 miles on this beast but I'm gonna be walking up most uphills but that don't matta, we've been shuttling all our rides. I went from xc racing machine to downhill monster. My friends didn't let me know of a 5' drop up ahead on a trail and landed it smoooothly. No regrets. Still keeping the trek 6000 for anything but shuttling action. :D

Glad to see some movement on this thread. :)

With this super mild winter we've been having here in western NC ... I've been on the local trails just about every day, weather permitting. Finally found my perfect tire combo ... yea! :hyper: Also, just put some RockShox Recon 351 U-turn's on my Kona Cinder Cone ... ripping now.

That's cool. Sweet ride, too! Check out my main trail- I*'m on this 2-6x a week: Rock Hopper SuperD 2012.mov - YouTube

Nice panoramic sweep of a trail, like the burms and fast sections. Videos don't really highlight how 'full on' the angles of elevation and drops are.

Nice run, I can see why you make the most of it.

Frozen solid and crunchy here now so I will get some time in tomorrow.

So iamdenialNJ, gone over to the other side I see :)

This is a local DH trail I've ridden about 10 times in all, 7 times in one day. It's a great buzz but I'm happy with the XC type stuff.

I haven't ridden it quite like that fella though, that is pretty quick and adept.

Well, Lagoon Valley(in Vacaville)is not bad- there are a few short steep sections and a little bit of technically-challenging stuff. It's all very spread out & you can see most of the park from anywhere in it. The bad thing right now is that much of the trails are in bad shape from cows+rain=sun=the evil opposite of a road ride. :scowl:
There's a MTB race upcoming(the Rockhopper Classic)so I'm banking on some repais happening soon- not sure when the race is happening though.
I also drive up to Rockville Hills Park, outside Fairfield; it's compact but has a very good variety. KILLER technical if that's your bag, but there's easy stuff too.
Have you ever been to the Auburn ravine?

OK, rode Rockville this morning, & I would NOT reccommend it as *good/mellow*... LOTS of rocks(hence the name I guess ;))pretty much EVERY where. I like it but I am a glutton for punishment. I did have the immense pleasure of catching 4 youngsters on the climb & passing them at a rate that made them look at me as if I had lobsters crawling out of my ears.

Awesome video Skitch it!! Here's a Mt. Wilson shuttling video I recorded on saturday. It was my frist time up there so taking it easy. Also, my first video editing so the video looks kinda whacky or sped up. Trying to get change around some settings to get them to look better but here's the footage. Be nice on my riding, I only have 6 months since I got into this sport. :P

I've haven't been up there since before the Station Fire...sad. :atoz:

That's pretty good progress for 6 months...really good actually! A lot of the trails in that area have serious DO NOT FALL sections. More than one biker has been choppered off those mountains. Keep your wits about you dude!
