Any mountain bikers??

This time of year, mustard is EVERYWHERE in SoCal. What's usually an obvious, easy to follow singletrack becomes something like this for a couple weeks every year.

Never heard that one. Been working a lot lately, no ride for a week or so... Sadly sad-sad

There will sadly be no mountain biking for me this summer, I'm bummed.

Boo! :atoz:

Just finished building up my new On-One 456 EVO. The parts swap fought me every step of the way ... but it turned out great! Hit my local trail today for it's first time out. Handled the 12 miles of technical-twisty-singletrack like a champ. Felt nicely compliant for being 4130 chromo ... then again I am going from Kona's aluminum. Although it weighs in at 29lbs ... it's so well balanced it feels much lighter when lifted by hand.

Specs:

Frame: On-One 456 Evo 16" 4130 Steel
Forks: Rock Shox Recon 351 U-turn 130mm (firm spring)
Crankset: Shimano SLX (2x9)
Stem: Truvativ Hussefelt 60mm
Handlebars: Truvativ Hussefelt Comp 675mm
Brakes: Hayes Stroker Rhyde
Shifters: Shimano SLX & Deore (front)
Derailleurs: Shimano XT & Deore (front)
Seat Post: Titec HellBent Layback
Clamp: Salsa
Hoops: Sun Ringle Black Flag
Hubs: Sun Ringle Dirty Flea
Weight ... 29lbs

Very nice build!

Nicely done! Got on my carbon 456 today and played dodgepie (cows OWN our local trails)

While I'd like to pick up a 456 I've decided that I am going to get a fatbike for next winter. A friend of mine owns a motorcycle/atv etc. shop and brings in some MTB stuff. He's going to bring in some 907 frames and bits this year. He'll let me pay gradually, which increases the WAF. He also carries Niner and I have to say I'm actually interested in the Rip9. It's a really nice frame.

I need to get a new tire and an upper guide and get them installed as well as changing the oil in my fork before dirt season starts. Bummed because 2 weeks ago the snow was almost all gone, then we got another foot or so last week. :spit:

I just ordered a new stem, handlebars, and grips for my bike. I cracked the stem a while back and I'm finally getting around to replacing it. I needed some more rise than my flat bars were giving me, so I figured I might as well get both at the same time.

I'm hoping to do some riding this weekend. I might need some new tires before I can do that though.

I've also been on the lookout to replace my bike all together. I've been eying a few 29ers. I've always been a fan of Specialized, but I've been checking out some of the Cannondale's with a Lefty fork lately. I'd need to sell a bass to get one.

Flash Carbon Ultimate is my dream bike

I don't have a car and I'll be spending my summer in a city with no trails I could access without one. Road biking it will be.

Quebec?

There must be a train or bus that can get you to Mont Ste. Anne with a bike. Is there a local MTB association? Maybe contacting them might yield someone close by that might be able to give you a lift to the trailhead.

Alright, lotsa biking happening. :hyper:
Mark, fat bikes are for me akin to Alembic or Fodera basses; Im afraid to try one as I may decide I need one... :D
Took our 20-yr-old tandem out roading the other day- traded the lead w/a bud on his new-to-him Kestrel road bike... he got us at the end, but we made him pay. Thinking I'll road-ify it for awhile- dump the worn-out Judy fork and knobbies, throw on new cables, brake pads, chain(s)& cassette. I say it still qualifies as an MTB.

Thanks man!

Took it out to my local spot again today for a quick ride ... totally dig it! Super happy I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on the EVO, instead of waiting until a Kona Steely frame popped up, which could have been a very long wait.

Are you able to score a better deal on the 907's? (although being able to pay little by little is still cool).

I've been checking out the On-One Fatty ... looks killer. If I had a need for a fat bike, thats the one I'd pick up.

After taking a quick ride on a buddy's Carver Ti420 29'er, it's making me seriously think about a Kona Honzo built up with a 130mm Fox fork.
A 67.5* head angle on a compact 29'er would totally rip! Maybe this next winter I'll look into it. For now, between my EVO HT and my Cannondale FS ... I'm pretty set. Plus I've got a bunch parts and a couple of frames to off-load before I even think about another bike. :smug:

Gotta say, those Rip9's do look sweet! Decisions, decisions. :D

Haha, I know that feeling. Easier for folks who don't get snow to resist the fatbike... Though, I'm told they're super fun on all kinds of terrain.

The Fatty is very cool and I'd consider it if I didn't have easy access to Surly and 907. The price I've been quoted for the 907 is less than I could get the Fatty for once I factor in the shipping, which is what kills me for On-One. I nearly bought a 456 last year but backed out because the shipping was more than the frame.

My buddy has 2 Rip9s now. Aluminum one from last year and carbon one for this. I will definitely ride these this year. I've been pretty ambivalent about 29ers so far but I haven't been able to ride many of them. He's been raving about how good the Rip9 is so I'm a bit afraid... That said, it would have to be a spectacular bike to be better than my Tracer 2.
