2014 Niner RIP 9 w/ upgraded 2014 Revelation fork ALL BLACK! It's been a few years since I've had a proper MTB. This is going to be fun!

Stem is only 100mm, pretty standard by xc standards, but the angle does make it look really long. I'll probably swap it out for a 90mm if I stick with this bar. If I get a bar with some more sweep, I'll probably leave it.

Yeah, I guess Im just mentally stuck in the 120+mm, zero-rise stem w/NARROW-ass h-bars 80's. my main rider has a 100mm and it looks short to me, although it feels right.
BTW, yay me: I just disassembled- AND reassembled my front BB-7 caliper(they've been howling, squeaking and complaining in several languages lately). Downed a beer and a half before touching it, and never looked at the online exploded view until AFTER getting it buttoned up. Man card: intact.

Good work with that! Disc brakes are one of the few things on a bike that I'll pay a shop to do any work on (other than centering the caliper on the disc). I don't want to run the risk of catastrophic failure on the trail!

Cool, I'll send you mine for a rebuild when the time comes. They're pretty loud, especially when wet, but they do a real good job of stopping my 230lbs on my 29er touring bike in any conditions.

... that's an Avid for ya. Solid stopping power ... unfortunately too much fruiting around with to tune-out the squeaks. On one set I ended up mounting one of my rotors backwards ... worked pretty good too.

Nowadays I'll only buy Shimano or Hayes ... they're generally ready right out of the box.

Hmm- yeah, I guess I'd have to concur; the Hayes on my Gemini have been almost completely trouble-free, while these BB-7's have been all up in my business. I did get a short hop on them yesterday- I still need to true my rotors, but the rebuild has made a huge diff

Believe me, I'm not bagging on full suspension bikes at all! Just at this point in my riding journey I'm content with my HT. I really like some of the current FS trail rigs out there, and I may splurge on 1 in the future. On the flip side, I have to check Whiteface out next season. When I get ready to go I'll shoot you a pm. I'm slow, but who cares ! Have you tried Killington? It's up there in elevation, too. Lots of trails of varying difficulty.

Never been to Killington but hear lots of stuff about it. Kingdon Trails (Burke) also gets a lot of positive press. Whiteface is a lot of fun. Very challenging. Bromont (Quebec) isn't far either and definitely worth it for a day/weekend trip for lift serviced DH. It's probably the biggest bike park in the East. Trails of all levels and types between fast and flowy with lots of jumps and super-gnarly tech fests.

Very nice. I'm looking at possibly buying a WFO 9 for my next AM bike. Rode one this summer and was really impressed with it.

Brakes aren't too bad to work on once you've done it a couple of times. Suspension dampers on the other hand...

Hope is the correct answer. They work great and look even better. They're really easy to bleed and don't require any specialized tools. I went through the gamut of Avid's offerings and couldn't get any of them quiet. My Hopes are dead silent unless they're wet.

Shimanos have awesome power and are quiet and reliable but they feel really on-off compared to Hopes.

I hear ya ... Hopes are definitely a superior brake, but are also higher dollar. Too bad for me, I've got a Deore budget.

Funny, I've heard just the opposite about Hopes bleeding easy ... which, besides the $$, is a big reason why I went for new '13 Deore instead of used Hope (was dig'n the mini's). Its good to know that's not exactly the case ... for when I'm ready for an upgrade.

You're right! ... as for stopping power, Shimano's are awesome; especially when you look towards value. My Deore's have done a darn nice job for saving my butt a time or two. For the $$ ... I don't have a single bad thing to say about them. Now if I was looking to build up a FS DH rig ... I'd most likely go Hope ... but not before giving XT/XTR's a real looking into.

Don't worry about it. I've ridden the new SLX brakes and they are awesome. Pretty much up there with XT, I think weight is the only obvious difference. I'm probably going to upgrade the Niner X5/X7/Avid1 group with full SLX in the spring and switch that stuff over to a cheap 1x10 for townie duty. On the lower end of the components groups, SLX just cannot be beat, IMO.

Thanks for posting, just what I needed to see. It's cold, wet, grey, muddy and miserable here and I haven't had my bike out for about 3 weeks.

How long is that run, and is it shot with a helmet mounted cam?

I'm not sure how long that section is exactly. My whole ride is 13.7 miles. The camera was attached to my handle bars.

Thanks dude. GoPro's are a lot of fun. I think a chest mount would be better than handlebars. I just don't have that component so I went with handlebars.
