My kids have those wind-up ones which never need batteries. I've grown addicted to winding them up...the sound....wirrrrrr wirrr..the light...ahhhh... yes, I am a flashaholic

And my personal on-stage lite-em-up stick, the G2 Nitrolon. Yellow polymer chassis that doesn't scratch sensitive stuff like guitar bodies. Quick and pocket-sized. I'm buying one of these for each of my roadies. LED flashlights... BAH HUMBUG!

Remember, if it can be considered a "gadget." Brad (digme) most likely has 5 of them with varying features.
My 2 G2's have been rotated all the way down to
1.taped one to the ladder for my attic (will probably never get used again)
2.another is taped to the inside of my electrical breaker panel.
Now... my led lights are at the top of the rotation.
1. I carry my Fenix P1D-CE on a keychain which is always with me. This led light absolutley blows away any of my single cell led or incandescent surefires.
2. The nitecore defender I origionally posted took the place of my old surefire E2L which rode in my front jeans or side cargo pocket on pants.
3. Surefire E1L stays in my Bass case. along with another Fenix P1D-ce for back up.
4. Another surefire E1L stays in my girlfriends giant purses she carries around. And a Fenix P3D stays in her glove compartment.
Not trying to sound rude ( i know reading text its hard to pick up on intonation of words and sarcasm and such)... but read up on some of the new led lights out there and look at some of the beamshots people post on the forums. I at one time was bah humbug about led's. But then I saw the light.

oh yeah. I bought two nitecore defenders. The other one stays next to the dog leash for when I walk my dog at night. It has such a great user interface you can go to strobe mode very fast for when cars are coming down the dark road.
Me too. I've said it before...with a 1-hour runtime the G2 is not well-suited as a worklight. Mine sits on my nightstand for emergencies.
My most used light is a Streamlight 4AA luxeon. Not as sexy as a Surefire but a great light and plenty bright for any task.

Okay give me a side-by-side comparison of the E1L next to the G2. Does it still give that annoying bluish tint? Is it a noticable difference in brightness or only if you're shining them side-by-side would you ever truly notice it?
I wanna give LED lights some credit, but of the ones I've tried (granted, NOT Surefire LED lights) I can't be bothered, even with the benefit of superlong battery life.
Oh, and at the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, I saw a guy running around with I believe a 6P. turned out he had a red lens on it. I never thought about it, but on a stage, without drawing attention to yourself as you try to fix something in the middle of a show, that red light works brilliantly! Can still see everything, read everything, but without being an eyesore to the audience.

I used to dislike LEDs too, but I've come to find them more useful for "day to day" use, mainly due to the significantly longer battery life and lower operating temperature. The traditional Surefire's are great as weapon lights and in emergency situations, but I have converted to their LED series in my glovebox and gigbag. LEDs have come a long way since their first introduction.
That said, the G2 is one of the best flashlights going. Bright, light, cheap and indestructable. I like them so much that my wife has made a joke of giving me one in my stocking every year.

My experience with any incandescent light is that they are far from indestructable. I agree that the G2 is indestructable without the bulb. And yes It is a great light. G2 was my first high quality/high output light after "maglites"
I dont have pictures of the beamshots side by side, but I Know that the G2 puts out more light, but the E1L is pretty close. Keep in mind the E1L only uses one battery. And, the led the E1L uses is outdated. If a new Cree-Q5 led was installed in the single cell E1L...It would do better (and with longer regulated output runtime) than the two cell G2 incandescent. and as far as the blueish tint goes, yes the regular E1L has it, but the newer higher output Cree led's (XRE-7090, Q2, Q4, Q5) are very white.
I like my G2. I hardly ever need a flashlight that bright, so the bulb and batteries it came with have lasted for years. I've run it maybe 15 minutes total, but it's always around if I need a really bright flashlight.
For most purposes, my little keychain LED light suffices.
