I remember back in the 80's, Spector made some pretty decent basses. I haven't heard much of them since then and all stores I've been to don't carry them. So I just checked out their site and some of their basses look really nice. Do they sound as good as they look? What is their tone like?

Can they get deep, warm, and smooth without grit and clack? If I recall (again, back in the 80's), they were kind of geared towards glam metal sound or that pre grunge sound. Nothing against that sound, just trying to find how versatile they are.

Very versatile basses, it's all in the setup and technique. I play hard rock and like the clanky aggressive tone, and I like to dig in to get that, but lately I've been seeing a lot of jazz players using Spectors and IMHO they will work well in any setting.

My natural finish Euro 4 sounds and looks great but the fret's need a lot of work, it's a nightmare to play at the moment =(

It´s an older NS2000/4. Great bass and probably the best bass I´ve had. I have had a few.

I can agree with this...BUT I will say that mmbongo's is much more to my liking than the neck thru that I had. I do not care for neck thru basses, so I never cared for the tone that my Euro had. I had a bolt on Spector and felt that it had better tone and I could get more usable sounds out of it than the neck thru.
I'm totally on board - I bought my first Spector (NS-4CR) in 1995, and I still have it! I absolutely love that bass.
Then, I decided to purchase a 5-string, and I bought a custom Carvin. I absolutely hated it, but I couldn't figure out why. It took me a year to realize that it was because it WASN'T a SPECTOR! So, I traded it on this site for a Spector NS5CR.
I'm a happy guy now

Love my Spectorcore fretless. Unique at the price point. Semihollow, piezo and magnetic. Certainly not metal-ish. More jazz than anything.
If I played fretless enough I would probably trade a bunch of cheap basses for another Stingray, but for all I do on fretless this thing is awesome.

I've wanted to sell my SSD ns4crfm a few times, and been glad I haven't, it's been with me the longest and every soundman I've played with recommends me to play it over the laklands/zons/foderas/wals etc...
I had a ReBop 5, a beautiful bass that I enjoyed playing. But as much as I wanted to, I just couldn't bond with. Something about the tone... I changed out the pre-amp and was going to swap out the pickups (EMG-HZ). I changed my mind at the last minute, sold it, and picked an un-played Peavey Cirrus 5 with proceeds. Couldn't be happier now. I've heard here on TB though that the Euro and NS basses are different animals than the ReBops and not in the same league. Never played one so I can't confirm.
