I'm looking for a lower tension string. I'd like to avoid anything overly brite. Prefer a roundwound. So basically, low tension, year old ernie ball hybrid slinkys but fresh out of the package. Any ideas?

The lightest gauge compression wound string you can find. GHS and SIT make them.

That or TI Jazz Flats, which are flats, but have a growly character that flats usually don't have.

TI Jazz Rounds (not flats) or DR Sunbeams would be my picks. The TI Jazz Rounds are my favorite strings.

I haven't swapped around enough to have a real favorite yet. Figured mentioning a few characteristics I was looking for would give me a good starting point.

Low tension + roundwound + not overly bright = DR Sunbeams

You will love them, guaranteed!

+1 on the TI Jazz Flats. Super low tension, rich warm sound with good mids, last forever.

Sunbeams are a fine choice stiffness-wise, but I find them to be on the bright side for rounds. Not warm at all. They do mellow, but still are pretty "alive" for rounds.

Have you tried the lightest gauge of Slinkies? 40-95?

They will tame down quickly and give you what you want.

I hate new slinkies. I do like them after 5 or 6 months of dead skin gets packed into the winds....
