My buddies and I have 'Vegas Rules' for golf:
Anyone can putt, right? So you have to write down your score (Skins game worth $1 out, $1 in, $1 overall each, so big money!!!), and you also have to write down the number of putts. So any hole's score looks something like this:
4/2 - Four strokes, two of which were putts.

Whoever has the most putts at the end of the round buys the beers. The skins game will never cover you (maximum $9 win), but being on your putting game will.

Golf is the one sport I can play with my wife. She enjoys the day out and it's a great way to get away from the kids.

I am a hardcore golfer. I've worked in the golf business since 1992. I played competitive amateur golf, and won several tournaments, and club championships. I worked as a greenskeeper, and then I turned professional and worked in the proshop side of the business. I teach as well. ...and all resulted because my bass students were away for summer holidays, and I got back into golfing to fill some free time. LOL

Yep, you know someone is a serious golfer when he has a big putting green with a sand trap in their back yard! I will stop by this weekend to practice!

Love to play...mediocre at best at doing so. I can put like a champ but may take me 10 strokes to get to the green

I am the same way, well except putting like a champ. I make the green in about 7 strokes, then 7 putts to get it in the hole

Been playing for about 20 years. I have a love/hate relationship with the game. I have found that in interest of limiting embarrassment and frustration on my part, I no longer keep score. Maybe when my work and family responsibilities begin to wane, I will be able to make a better showing. Until then it is a good excuse to be outside and away from most of the electronics.

I love it. My 14 year old son has developed an interest in playing over the last few years. I blame Tiger Woods 2010 for the Wii. But hey, it’s time we can spend together. We are both taking lessons now and playing 2-4 rounds a month. I am hopeful that my son still wants to play a round every now and again with me in 25 years.

It’s one of the best feelings in the world when your son beats you, and still looks for opportunities to play with you.

That’s awesome!! It’s such a different type of athleticism compared to other sports I’ve played, but it’s still incredibly athletic. I love the challenge.

My son was hitting them further off the tee than he last round!! Granted, he’s already about 5’10”. Lol. We shall see though.... After my lesson today, I think that might be changing.

Same as most here - I used to play a lot more than I do anymore. I played summer leagues and tournaments from 4th grade through high school, culminating in trying out (but not making) the varsity golf team in high school. That's been 13 years ago now, and I'm lucky to get one round per year these days.

I prefer Pitch and Putt. Driving stirs up my low back pain. 18 holes in 80 minutes after work in summer.

This. I let a mate keep score, I always play better this way. I know he’s honest because I beat him by 6 strokes last time.

The less you think, the easier it is to be ‘in the zone’.
