Any Thoughts?

for an upcoming charity gig for child soldiers, me and the singer in our band are going to find an r&b or hip hop song that is really popular in the coming months and transform it into an alternative rock song. Naturally me being the only one who understands music theory, the singer will choose the song and i will do the busy work, chords transition and melody and stuff. So now: Any thoughts? oppinions about how it will work, past experience taking on a similiar task or whatever. BTW we are all in high school and are playing the fundraiser for this overnight thing for Child Soldiers in Uganda called Invisible Children. The people attending will be in high school so they will probably be familiar with the song anyway.

Depending on the song, you may be writing quite a bit. A lot of R&B/Hip Hop is one measure of rhythm over and over. I would suggest making it very symphonic, with lots of building/chromatic chord changes.

Great cause to support, I appreciate your desire to help.
