Any users of Beta?

SolidgoldFX Beta? Fantastic low to mid gain pedal with huge bottom end and very musical through the mids. After trying all of the usual similar suspects like Barbershop, Blueberry, SFT, etc. it was my favorite but of course that's a taste thing. I just liked the deeper, punchier sound it has over the others. It's not a transparent drive, and it's not high gain, and it's not a fuzz. It sounds like tubes, so if you like tubes you'll like the Beta :)

I like this post -- not because I agree (I haven't even tried the Beta), but because mmbongo has tried all the usual suspects (as he says) including the Beta.

Plus, he emphasizes that preference is subjective: depends on the tone you're looking for. Plus, so much depends on what gear you have... f'r instance, some pedals don't play very well with active basses (I have no idea whether applies to the Beta), and as noted the Beta has huge bottom, which might not be the best choice if you want to add sizzle to a bottom-heavy rig.

This is exactly why it's the next pedal I'm acquiring (along with a Providence Anadime chorus).

All my basses are active, but I lower the signal level down with my compressor before going to my other pedals so the inputs don't clip, then jack it back up with a preamp pedal at the end.

i just got my beta yesterday and pretty quickly feel in love with it. i'm gonna use at as an always very slight od and so far it does a great job.
a huge plus is it makes everything else on my board sound better!
the real test will be thur when i have practice.

i recently had one ... really liked the sound , but it seemed to come on to easily .. ? i email SolidGold FX and they said they could trim the input gain down a bit if i wanted ... i was comparing it to the full size TC Spark that i had ... which i liked as a low gain tube grit also ... i also have been thru the normal pedals ...
from Barber to B7K ... i sold both the Beta and Spark ... and now i fiddling with a Wampler Low Blow ...
which actually seems like an interesting mix of just about everything i've tried .. ! lots of variety to be found w/ 3 band EQ , 2 dirt voicings , filters , blend knob .... so far i do like it .. ! also works well with guitar ...

Interesting... I've always placed my preamp (3Leaf Enabler or Aggy TH) at the front of my signal chain. I'll have to try this, though I don't use a compressor.

I love mine.... replaced OCD, Hardwire and number of other OD pedals (even though all my OD pedals are great) ..... it seems to complement bass well. I like its warmth and it took me 5 minutes before I decided not to return it. It adds nice "tubey" compression without being overwhelming at any point.
