Any video lesson about Korn bass slapping style?

Hi everybody,

I read some diskussions about slapping like the Korn bassist. Mostly there are some vague tips like slap with the thumb and the pinky. Regretfully I yould not find a video lesson. OK tehre are many lessons about funky slap style but not about this specific way as the korn bassist Fieldy does.

Anybody got a video lesson?

Yeah, Fieldy kinda does his own thing when it comes to slapping, def. not your typical slap bassist, i wish I could help you.... you will find that alot bassist do not like Fieldy and his technique or his tone... altough I think it worked well for Korn....

This is what got me into bass when I was 14 years old. Why ? because you could here him without a big subwoofer.

After seeing the vid, his slap style isn't different than Les Claypool ( I know some of his song ) and his position is like Flea in RHCP.

For the tone, well I like it way more than Geddy Lee or John Entwistle ultra-overdriven bass sound.

I am really interested to learn more. It does not matter if you are a metal or a funk guy. Slapping is slapping. And if anybody can play slap bass with his teeth I will still be interested to see how he does it (even if not eager to do it myself)

The thing with Fieldy is that he doesn't really play much and all these 14 year old kids think he's the best thing since oxygen and the fact that he's technique isn't that great and the way he just bangs those octave 8eight notes is quite... amusing after you've seen someone play some cool slap lines.
I don't hate him, I just think that those kids need to get a glimpse of what a truly technical and a good slap bassist can do.:)
Also Korn was a part of the rap/nu-metal gimmick band-wagon which might affect peoples opinions on him.

I'm really not asking this question to be a "Fieldy hater"... His style is not my cup of tea but I don't really care what people do with their own instruments.

Anyway, here's the question: is the neck on his bass bowed backwards? It sounds like every note frets out.

Seriously, this is a legitimate question. I just want to know if that's what he's doing.

you're right, the kids buy what they get. If you compare the rock music from today, which is often kind of nu metal and metal core and a rap crossover, with the 60's 70's, you probably will think every next generation is growing more stupid than that before. Sometimes I think so. This is probably the way when culture saturates and it still has the natural drive to reinvent itself. Simplifcation seems to be a part of this process.

simple... first you dont need to know how to slap. then on your amp crank the treble and bass roll the mids off completely.... lower your action where the strings practically touch the frets. drop tune and slap fieldy like tone... im not a fieldy hater but i dont see why he got famous. Flea and geddy deserve all the fame they got but i dont really think he deserves it.

Everybody buys what they get and everybody always did including in the 60s and 70s. I'm not trying to defend today's stuff, but some of the music in 60s and 70s wasn't that clever either. Also some people did stupider things than some other people do today. So not sure about the generations being stupider as a rule. As we get older we get more arrorgant and less forgiving, that's for sure. Oh, and we are attached to the things from our youth and don't like anything new. I'm 40+ BTW:)
