I haven't found anybody else with this problem, In a way you could say I'm a reverse hoarder.
If there's something I don't use often I sell or throw it away. I can't stand having excess stuff, due to this my apartment has a bed and a couch. That's it....

I have always been this way with basses, I could not own more than 1 at a time. I finally found the solution and that is to buy basses that aren't worth selling. Now I have 2 squiers (1 was a gift can't sell) I also had a flea bass (no resale).

Same with amps. I had an awesome ampeg rocket b100r but I needed something bigger for one of my bands. So I sold it.

I have a motorcycle but am often temped to sell it, if I can't ride it daily I see no use for it, I don't see how people can have things and just let them sit. Drives me nuts.

Ahh clothes is another one.. I hate having too much clothes. And if I don't love that particular it emits gone..

Maybe I got it from living with my family. They keep everything.. I been trying to convince my dad there's no need for 4 work out benches in one garage. That are buried.

That garage has never seen a car.

I once possessed a Squier P bass, a Fender P Lyte, a Traben Chaos 5, a Yamaha RBX250, a Kramer headless, an Ibanez Gio electric, a Jasmine acoustic, and a Washburn WD acoustic/electric.

Despite the fact that I used all those on a regular occasion (at least once a day) I still hated having all that stuff.

I weeded it down to the Fender P Lyte, the Washburn, and Ibanez.
(I still technically own some of the stuff, just on long-term loan to friends who are trying to learn)

I usually get lazy/distracted and end up inadvertently with piles of stuff, and then spend one weekend every 3-4 months "de-crappifying" the house, tossing stuff in a box for Salvation Army, garbage, etc. Once it gets to that too-much-stuff tipping point I really get into it and get rid of everything I can.

When I was younger, like in my 20s or early 30s, I liked the idea of a kind of victorian home with all sorts of widgets and doo-dads filling every corner. After four kids, and I've lost count of how many moves (academic career), I'm really sick of all the clutter and of having to constantly pack it up, unpack it all, and then pack it up again a year or two later. Now I'm the one always pushing everyone else in the house to sift through their stuff for Goodwill or a yard sale. Not counting my books and my music gear, of course...

I have always had borderline hoarding tendencies. Tons of stuff, way too many projects going on. I've spent the last few years cleaning out everything that was collecting dust. I donated everything decent to charity, farmed out some things to people with more time or space than I have, and took all the rest to the dump or set it out at the curb. It feels so good to be surrounded by useful things that I love, instead of tripping over reminders of good intentions and time constraints.

I found myself in a cycle of sorts. I start out with just what I need and plenty of room, then I get a girlfriend. After she moves in, she slowly starts accumulating stuff and cats. After about two or three years, I'm closeting my bookshelf and putting my cd rack in some far corner because her crap is taking up all the living space. Then we break up and she moves out and takes most of her stuff with her and leaves a lot of the crap she has no room for. About a month or two later, I throw away just about everything in the house except the things I started with. Then I get a girlfriend.....

Yeah,

I have to have a minimal amout of "stuff". The more stuff I have the more I feel trapped and overwhelmed by all the stuff. Even when I get rid of junk, I still feel the need to get rid of more, because I really don't need all that crap. I try to have only what I need, and I don't like having more than 1 of anything.

I'm currently going through a phase where I'm offloading a lot of stuff I don't need.

That is the perfect definition of my life. I found that I buy only Mexican Fenders because no one will buy them for enough to be worth selling. Then I get really nice pickups and soup them up that way, if I decide to sell it, I'll think "well I spent too much on thar to only sell it for 200"

I hate having something and not using it enough to appreciate its value. So yes I know how you feel.
:p
