Anybody gig with 2x15's ?

Everywhere I go I see the 4x10 cabs and I must admit I feel a little bit of "peer pressure" to get one.

Right now I am gigging with a GK Backline 210 with a GK BLX 1x15 bottom. I want to get another cab and just assumed I would get the 4x10. But, if I just get another 15" bottom, it will cost a lot less, weigh a lot less......what's the downside?

I play a 5 in a Country/Rock band and I hit below the Low E quite a bit. :bassist: I barely ever slap or pop- maybe a little on one or two songs.

I used a 215 cab for 30 years, but recently switched to a 115 combo. I was old school, using JBL E140's with no tweeter, and still love that sound. But, times change and so did my gig situation, whereas a 115 combo is plenty ( but I still use a JBL in it ! ;) ). I did try a 410 cab once, really did'nt care for it, too muddy sounding to me and hard to hear. I'd go with another 15.

would it be a better match to get another markbass cab or can I go with a different brand?

Yeah you just need to tell anyone that gives you any stick speaker size means sod all, you can get plenty of high frequencies out of a 15 if it was capable to do so. Just direct them to the nearest PA top and they'll see that the midrange driver is probably a 15 (which acoustically isn't a very good idea cos large drivers don't disperse sound very well above 1K), if they still don't believe you crank your upper midrange and pierce their eardrums, that GK 15 can probably put out enough top end to prove a point if it really came to that :p

I use an NV215 and it's the best cab I've ever played through, maybe best cab I've ever heard.

I have tried every combination of 15's and 10's. I presently own three Avatar 15" cabs (two with Eminence Kappa-lite 3015's, one with a Delta-lite) and two Avatar 210Neo cabs and one 410Neo cab. The best tone for rock in small to medium clubs is one 15 with a 210 on top. It just works. I drive it with a 4Pro and I rarely need to go into the PA. The 15 with a 410 comes out when I need a bit more or I play outdoors. The two 15 stack is nice but it lacks some of the punch I get with the 10's. I tried it several times and everytime it lacked what the 15+210 had. Having said that, I think your amp, bass, strings, playing style, etc will all add to the equation, but for me... 15+210.

2x15 do sound fuller,beefier(better)but who wants to have to move them.
2x1x15 also get the job done just as well,depends on ie. music played.sound (vol) level on stage and tone required.The sound from 15's on stage is imo just right,but,and just
sometimes not loud enough in comparison with an 8x10.jmo

I play a Nemesis RS115 with the nemesis 115 extension cab, works great for funk or rock. I think with most modern cabs with newer amps or combos you can EQ well enough to get the sound you want regardless of the speakers, I am a big fan however of keeping speakers of the same make and model as the chances of them working together are pretty good!
