anybody own a buzzard

i really need to ask this as its been bugging the nads off me, gareth... do you feel any difference between the B1 and B2? do you notice any sonic changes other than the high mid bite of the 1 piece B1. obviously john loved the B2's tone, as he gigged it a few times (that i have found) and can be seen using it in his home studio on 'an ox tale'

just i checked out you youtube, and the B2 (mine and yours probably LOL) gets pretty damn close to my ears, i find that i can still get a nice 'classic' tone out of the B2 too which people seem to find weird LOL

also do you keep the B1 at home? and whats your address? and when will you be out :ninja:

Howay Darth.... the doors always unlocked, just pop in! ;)

The B2 is easier to play actually, the neck on the B1 is monsterous; and I think the B2 neck maybe ever so slightly narrower.
The B2 deffo has a warmer sound, but that is to be expected of course with the wood body. Mine has an ash top on an alder body so I can't quite get the trebley sound of the B1 on it - but the tone is superb. I think with the electronics in it you could get almost any sound you wanted. I rehearsed with it last night and put it through an Ashdown Perfect 10 with no effects and it sounded just great.
The B2 does come very close and yes, I think JE may just have switched over - he must have designed it with Rob for a reason!

Sounds like my kind of bass. I love the tone of my Precision with the Status neck and pup - and as much as I love JE's tone, something like what he had on the "Royal Albert Hall" CD is a touch too much, uh, clank. :ninja:

ah, cheers gareth, i figured the B2 would be slightly lacking of the upper mid bite, but i like my tone that little bit more smoother on the low end anyway :)

i always loved the top on your B2, looking at your statii page answerd a Q i was gonna ask. i nearly ordered that same top on mine inspired by Olivers B2 :) but i just loved the black on black (i was gonna get black hardware too, but i figured that black strings were not common nor cheap at the time so i didnt bother).

if i remember right rob designed the B2 as a one off for johns birthday, and then he must have Ok'd the design for production not long after. i remember the abbey road studio gigs john did shortly before his death, there were loads of pics with the B2 (used to be on the JE band site but they have not been on in like 2 years).

i just figured out which battery was the LED's on my B2........ it seems they run dry a hell of a lot faster than the EQ :P it was a head scratcher, even thoughit should have never have been :ninja:

it does but just tells you what the pots do :)

like i said it really should not have been a hard process just i was obviously really lazy in the last 3 years :D i was puzzled though as its an 18v circuit and there are 3 batteries, ovbiously one had to be the LED's but i figured it would all be one big circuit (in my stupidity/laziness i didnt consider the sonic trouble that would cause if they were not isolated loops :P)

oh and pics or they dont exist

That bass of Ollie's gave me GAS for quite a while, so when I found one like it...well, I was very happy!

The B1 takes 5 9V batteries! 3 for the L.E.D's and 2 for the electronics....

Great looking bass... they are just beautiful guitars. I get GAS looking at yours and I have one! And yup, those flightcases are built to last!

yeah i was expecting 5 on the B2, happily rob must have upgraded the LED system since the B1 was in production.

yeah i love playing the B2, i am a 5 string player mainly and my new (had it a year) sandberg PM5 gets the most play time ATM, but if i need the OX tone or something a little more raw the B2 is the first call. when i gig (ha its been too damn long :() the hercules triple gets the B2, sandberg and either a backup 5 or paisley P :)

this amazing statement seemed to generate a preposterously sedated response...it just blows my mind that you actually own one of entwistle's basses!! that one looks very similar to the one i saw him playing when i was first inspired to try my hand at bass. i've thought about what it would be like to own one of his basses but ultimately i think it would be too overwhelming for me. anyway, sorry for the fanboy outburst...i couldn't help it haha.

I think rob needs to move the status logo to the end of the G string tuning peg
