Have two defretted fours and a fretted five, but find myself needing a fretted four (especially for learning slap ... wider spacing and clanky frets ).

For those who've played one, how were the Asian Big Breaks? Relatively quiet? Any issues with the tone? I've read they growl like the lower end Power Spans, which I love. Still very flexible with the ICE pre?

All my basses are SRs so I'm sure I'll like the feel. Just curious about tone and flexibility.

I don't like the finishes and I do like the Powerspans so I'm not spending the extra. Should be a good bass, and my gut says that the Asian and US made pickups are similar. I wonder if anyone would be able to tell them apart blind.

I've been an Ibanez fanboi since I started switching off on bass 12 or 13 years ago (have owned 7 of them), and I wanted to try an SR with single coils. No one had that blue color SR600e in stock and while I was at home resting my dikskinners after a tough week of prepping for auditions and gigs and a four hour show last. I was browsing four bangers and I came across an SR1600 in stock. Never owned a Premium SR but have always wanted one. I'm playing in three bands and gigging in two of them and don't currently own a fretted four. So I pulled the trigger on it with The Major's blessing. I've always sorta felt I didn't really gain anything with higher end SRs cuz the wood type means very little to me. But it looked gorgeous and The Major commented on the color several times. I already have buyers remorse though.

I have to say, and I'm sure I have several times, I really really like the PowerSpan pickups. At one time I even tried to find a pair to put in my SR505e. Still might at some point.

So Zzounds just got some SR600es in so I canceled the 1600 order. Debating ordering the far less expensive SR600e that I wanted initially. I need a fretted 4. Fretting about SR1600 vs SR600e vs Sterling Ray 35. Played an inexpensive Sub Ray 4 the other day and liked the tonez. If I had a mid pot I might be able to make that work.

Trying to add slap to my skill set and the 16.5mm spacing on my SR 5 string is tough.
