Anyone else dislike Sansamp?

Sevdog: had thought about that route after talking to a Tech21 'tech'...is it really all riding on that 'mid' knob??

Scottfeldstein: VT bass!? heard so many glowing reports but when I tried one it seemed sooo sensitive! huge output and crazy overdrive??

Guess I will have to trade the BDDI for one of the above and start the tweaking?...

...or maybe I should just buy an old SVT head and be done with it!! ;)

Never found VT Bass to be too sensitive. Very easy to dial in ime. The v2 is brilliant. I totally fatten up my gk tone with a more vintage vibe. And I tried b3k last gig - vt is fatter, b3k has that upper mids aggression going on (you can do a similar thing with speaker sim on vt bass, not the same, but close).
Scott - just use your gk DI, I don't see a problem, you still have your signal affected by VT Bass.

Been playing a PBDDI for 4 years and can't see myself playing without it. It's my only always-on pedal (apart from the LMB-3) and have used it live a few times, in the studio and at rehearsals and have never been let down. I like having different settings (for me: tube, reggae, light OD) all while keeping a similar tone. It did take me a while to get over the lack-of-mids knob (still would be nice, but would it be the same pedal ? anyhooo...).

For me, the attraction to this pedal is intangible, really. I started playing bass largely due to Geddy Lee's "Closer to the heart" bassline. The SA is my connexion to that moment. And as a bonus, Tech21 is a great company to do business with. Can't say the same about other companies we read about here.

I dig it. Even works great with my EUB. Although the first time I tried one at GC I did not like it. I think because I was using a so-so bass. On my basses it seems to enhanse the dirt I put in front of it. But I can see how some wouldn't like it. You can dial yourself to blah if you're not fimilar with how it works.

I don't know how the BDDI reacts to different input levels but the VT sounds a lot better (to me) with a low volume signal. When I pushed mine with my high output active bass I had no chance to dial in a tasteful, slightly gritty, tubey tone. With the preamp on the bass switched off though it was a lot better.

I got the RPM so I have to say I am very satisfied. I don't like specialty pedals. I seem to be able to dial in whatever sound I want. With the suggested settings in the RPM manual, the drive control isn't even on for an SVT-type emulation; is only at 9 o'clock for 'Bass Guitar - Fat Tube', and at 1 oclock for 'Bass Guitar - Overdriven'. I can use it completely clean if I want and the mid-shift and mid-level control seem to give me any tone I could possibly want. I wasn't searching for some pie-in-the-sky sound that I THINK I used to remember. All I wanted was a nice preamp that's versatile and gets me dirtier than a typical clean solid state head. I have no complaints. I use mine with the drive at anything above '0' and then adjust tone to taste, with Blend at 100%. I don't want a fuzztone.
Their seems to be a lot of Sansamp dissatisfaction here, but they DO make some good stuff.

from what i understand most FOH mixers on that level will blend a DI signal with a mic'ed cabinet signal to fill out the tone a bit. ymmv.
