Couldn't resist a Black Friday deal. It has the single most useless second feature I've ever seen or could possibly imagine (can you spot it?) but I love the rest of it and paid maybe 65% for a watch I was already thinking about.
Looking at Christopher Ward now so probably going to chill out and save a little. Want something classic-ish looking in Titanium.

That is wild. I don't get what that "50" is supposed to represent in the bottom right round window. Looks like seconds are shown in the outer most rings, and that little window may be seconds too? The little window on the left I can't tell what that is. Very cool though. Is there lume on that dial?

Not really "self-winding" or batteryless, but they recharge on sunlight.

The hands with the dual circles are the hours/minutes. I have a quartz variation of the same concept so I have gotten used to reading it at a glance (you just look at the longer hand on each of those).
Now, you are 100% right on the "50" thing. That scrolls through seconds so the next number up is "55" and it's on a clear disc so you can also kinda see the seconds that have passed. The window on the left is the world's tiniest AM/PM sun/moon phase thingy ever made.
I haven't "charged" this one up yet, having just gotten it earlier today, but the company is both kinda hit-or-miss on lume and now offering new/preorder models with full lume dials so it might be better than some of the others or it might suck. I'll leave it outside tomorrow and see, but it's not like I bought this thing to efficiently tell time.
Can see through it too so that's fun.
If I really, really need the time in the dark, I don't think you're getting brighter than a dive computer:
It has a cool flashlight mode that is actually super handy if you're trying to mess with tight cabling under a pedalboard or rack with patch bay etc. Flip it around so you basically shine light from your hands like Iron Man. If all you need to know is color and rough location it's super handy. Who would've thought?
I didn't know Seiko was still around. I haven't worn a watch in decades. But the thought of wearing one again has been on my mind some the last 6 months.
They've even got a top end line called Grand Seiko with some great innovations and dials.
Yup! GS even became their own distinct brand in 2017, and a fully separate corporation by 2022.
Seiko has a huge presence and following going back a generation, but GS is it's own thing.
Grand Seiko has gone on to become a sought after brand for:
“Quietly obsessive Japanese craftsmanship that pursues absolute precision, finishing, and legibility without relying on ostentatious design or Swiss heritage storytelling.”
I mean... I know Rolex has the meteorite thing but the Grand Seiko snowflake is pretty iconic and Citizen among others have given it a nod/copy.
I fall in and out of the watch thing quickly. I’ll wear a watch for a few weeks and then just not. Then for a few days I’m checking my bare wrist for the time. Then I don’t think about it for a while. Then I start wearing a watch again.
Part of the reason is my favorite watch is my Dad’s old watch and I don’t want to wreck it.
I guess that’s a good excuse to get a new watch!!!

Yes indeed, but, in addition (as you probably know), regular Seiko has two distinct tiers with separate web sites, which can be confusing. The higher tier is Seiko Luxe (Home), which includes some limited editions, the King Seiko range, Astron models, and Presage and Prospex models above about $1k but below Grand Seiko. These are only available at designated Seiko Luxe dealers, so they're more difficult to find. The entire Philly metro area has only one Seiko Luxe dealer, and it's about 45 minutes away in Delaware.

I've always been a wristwatch guy. I've never been one for chains and pinky rings, so a watch was the thing for me. And I like mechanical ones. No smart watches for JW. IF the boat ever came in, I'll be looking at SeaMasters . . . . .

I'm a righty that wears my watch on the right, so my slapping hand. I generally take my watch off to play but anyone had any issues with that? I understand I am not Nadal and I don't own an RM but I am curious if you would play your bass and slap fast with your priciest watch.
