Anyone Else NOT Like Fender Basses?

I dunno... I'd say I don't like them to the extent that the one I have, is enough for me. My first bass was a lefty '78 P-Bass that I bought from a friend in '88. I still have it; and it's a nice bass. But, it is heavy. And I have basses with nicer (to me) necks; even though it's the optional Jazz-width neck, it's chunkier than I really like. I know how much some people love Fenders, but honestly? I never thought they were the Alpha and Omega of basses. I'm still looking for that one... The major problem I have with Fenders in general, though, is simply that I can't have one - except an American Standard P-Bass in 2 colors, or an American Standard Jazz Bass in 2 colors. Page after page after page of Fender basses; but a black/burst AS P or Jazz is my only choice. I might have been a bigger Fender fan if they had been a bigger supporter of lefties - but, sorry; waay too late now...

I've been playing for 20 years and have only owned one Fender (Warmoth built) style bass. I built it as I wanted a Pbass. It sounds amazing, but it just doesn't feel right in my hands.

I recently found out I prefer short scale basses and just bought a 2006 Gibson SG standard which already feels like home!

Does it sound like a Pbass.. No. That is why I like it!

I'd say I'm just the opposite...I don't care much for non-fender style basses. After owning around 40 different basses over the years I found that I prefer 4 string, passive, bolt-on, P or J basses.

Same here. Owned about all of them, seem to come back to the P style basses.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. I'm reading mostly respectful reasonable responses here that are more than just slams for the sake of it. I like the fact that there are those who have a viable reason not to be sheep. It's been enlightening for me.

Overall I see no reason for people to elaborate on the models and beands they don't like.

I respect people and their opinions, so I won't knock you down. I personally am the total opposite. I'm all about fender. It's what I started out on, and what I currently play. I've owned many Ibanez, music mans, stagg, cheap knock offs, Gibson,you get the point. A lot have come and gone fender and squier included BUT, fender has been the one also to last. I play/own both p and jazz basses, but prefer p bass. To me the fender precision bass is the sexiest looking instrument their is, and also theirs nothing like the tone and quality of the instrument. No matter what, even buying other brands, I always find my way back to the fenders. Plus all my main influences play fender as well so... Anyway it's cool that you don't like or prefer fender, just keep playing. Music is music

Believing the people that love these basses are sheep is an uneducated opinion. Now that you have gone there and belittled other's opinions, let the floodgates open and the flaming begin. Then we can all witness, again, why these threads are bad.

It's always helpfull to me if someone elaborates on both the positives and negatives of brands. It's the hate that does not help. It just clouds the issue you're hoping to become better informed about.

I was commenting on the people that looked to other brands and NOT berating those that choose the Fender brand. I'm sorry you misunderstood. My apologies to all.

I'm with you, 'brain. Negative opinions are best kept to oneself -- tongue biting is a great skill to cultivate. Now if someone specifically asks for your opinion, that's a different matter. Peace, all.
