Anyone else this crazy with their gear?

We have a saying in the horse world… if you can only ride one horse with good results, you might not be much of a rider.

Hey, you can't go wrong with what has worked for you all these years. One of the advantages to your setup is the same cab at practice and live makes for some nice consistency. I keep my Bergantino HG410 at the rehearsal space, and mostly gig with my 2 ENXT112's bc they are so portable. No problems, but there is of course tonal differences between the cabs.

Sometimes I think I’m a little bit crazy when it comes to the gear that I love.

I bought a Bergantino AE 410 bass cab about 10 years ago and nothing else that I have played through has even come close to displacing this cab as my holy grail of cabs. Because these have been out of production for so long, I started freaking myself out about what would happen if a speaker blew or if something went wrong…what would I do if something happened to my crown jewel of bass goodness?

I started shopping around to find another one a couple years ago and these almost never come up for sale (for good reason I might add). I even stalked Craigslist nationwide and tried to get a couple people who listed them for local sale to ship theirs on my dime. I’m not joking when I say that from what I have seen, maybe a couple of these become available per year…

Fast forward to today and holy smokes, I found one in amazing condition with casters and tuki cover available for purchase and shipping. I pulled the trigger immediately and this one will live on my rehearsal spot while the other one continuous to be my gigging workhorse.

2 years. 2 years of diligence and finally…I bagged my prize!

Am I crazy to choose 2 of the same cabs vs. buying a different awesome cab to try?

Not crazy at all! Bless you for finding what works best for you, and I totally agree with getting “backups”. I actually bought a backup to my Aguilar db659 preamp. I love smooth tone and parametric EQ, and to me, they remind me of the time when small bass companies went all-out on trying to make the best gear possible for players.

Funny - I’ve owned the AE410 and sold it just last year. Great cab, great weight, but I’ve found I prefer the sound of my 2 HT112’s.

Having a backup of something you really enjoy is way better than having something different that you barely use.
I own 3 precision basses and won’t sell any of them.
They are all a bit different but a p bass is a p bass…………at least from my wife’s point of view !

In support of your point…SVT heads are only 300 watts…

Your post motivated me to dig out my 1996 Eden WT-300 to see why I liked it. I had a D-410XLT and D-410XST back when I could lift them with a WT-800C to drive them. Anyway, I plugged the WT-300 into my CN210 prototype and ran through some of the tones. It certainly is a different flavor from Jim's amps - I used to think you couldn't hear the tube in the front end of the Eden but that, along with that big ol' toroidal transformer, seems to add some thickness to the sound. It almost seems a little "spongy." I can see why you'd like the Eden gear. It's why I've kept that amp since I bought it in '96. I still prefer the clean sound of the Bergantino amps, and I can dial in a little of the tube feel if I need it.

+1 on the mixing the XLT and XST cabs. I have one 210 of each. It's a great combination.

We use FOH support so unless we are playing outside, I only use the XST cab powered with 400 watts, it can out out up to 129 dB. That is more than enough for most applications. When I use both cabs, I use a Navi preamp and the WT-1250 power amp which is a little different than the WT-800.

I don't play with a lot of low end, drive my cabs to the max, or use the Enhance feature at all, so mine is pretty tight. At worst I can say when you get over 80% of the maximum RMS rating with these cabs, then tend to get harsh sounding.

Goods stuff for sure, but is it the best all conditions? Debatable with no real conclusion in sight..LOL!!!

Glad you found some thing you like. Thanks for your response.

I am tempted to buy a Bergantino NXT 212…

have you tried one of these?
I don't have that one, but I do have an HDN212. I played an outdoor festival gig with it. The sound man miked everything including the bass. After the gig, I said, "Soooahhhh - how much bass did you put in the PA?" Him: "None. Didn't need it."

Ha!!! My buddy has an HDN212…killer cabs! We A/B my AE 410 with his HDN 212 and they sound remarkably similar...

Eden and SWR heads still sound like gold to my ear. I still have a WT405 head and a Workingpro 15 combo that are both aural magic.....but they are a lot heavier & bulkier than current fare.....and the cabs are like anti-tank obstacles.

I played an SWR SM-900 in the 90's and love how it sounded! But, it would blow fuses when I pushed it too hard. In fact, my band opened for Run DMC and the Pharcyde on Halloween night in 1998 and the fuse blew on the first song so I had to play the biggest show of my life up until that point only able to hear myself out through the mains.
