Anyone ever cover much old school metal?

I am trying something new with some old band mates. Instead of doing your typical A sides 90's covers which seems to be something a lot of bands do...we are going to try and do some Pantera, Megadeth, Anthrax, Motorhead, AC/DC, and maybe a little bit of Slipknot. (I know that is a bit newer). I would be kind of curious how modern bar crowds would react to them. So far the 5 songs we are working on are...

Cowboys from Hell: Pantera
Cemetery Gates: Pantera
Hanger 18: Megadeth
Holy Wars Punishment Due: Megadeth
Only: Anthrax

As a bassist I have to say that the end of Hanger 18, and all the change ups in Holy Wars is a bit tough...but I will get it.

So what do you guys think? Winner...or a bit to much metal for the modern bar crowd?

In my old cover band we did a few old-skool metal tunes

Seek and Destroy - Metallica
Master of Puppets - Metallica
For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica
The Trooper - Iron Maiden


Not sure what your usual crowd is like, but we did a lot of Van Halen covers, and those always went over well with almost every type of listener I've seen. Personally, if I heard a cover band playing Pantera, I'd be like

Trooper sounds fun. I have done "For Whom the Bell Tolls"...and its fun to. I think Cowboys and Holy Wars is going to be epic if we can ever get it down.

A band i played guitar for in the mid 00's covered a few, such as: Judas Priest - Metal Gods and Manowar - Hail and kill. Metal gods was especially fun.

My old band used to cover Holy Wars, Hangar 18, Cemetery Gates, Revolution Calling (Queensryche), and a few others that I can't remember. Throwing in any of those during one of our gigs always went over well. Granted, we were a prog metal band so it was right up the crowds alley anyways.

I always wanted to do Only or Room For One More, but I was the only one that listened to Anthrax apparently. Nobody knew what I was talking about.

Room One More is epic! Just a quick question. Any advice you can give me for learning the break downs in Hangar 18? Those parts are kicking my tail. LOL

What kind of crowd/bar is it? If the bar has a metal crowd...good songs. If the bar generally books top 40, that list will ensure it's your last gig. I personally love that stuff though!
