Anyone ever remove just a couple frets?

This has bugged me for years. Ibanez is my preferred bass style. The shape and neck are perfect for me with one minor flaw. I wish they weren't 24 fret instruments.
My slap style is weird. I tend to pin down the e string with my thumb when plucking. This sounds off the the high E. Its fast and I mute it quickly but it's there. If Ibanez neck pickup was 1/4 inch closer to the bridge there would be no issue and I could just move my hand back. I considered reprofiling the bottom of the neck, and i still might. Remove material under the e and a and leave the d and g there. The easy route would just be to pull the last 2 frets and fill. I've made an Ibanez fretless before so pulling frets is not new to me. I've been working to change technique but undoing 2 decades of habit is difficult.
I suppose a custom neck is not out of the question but seems expensive for the minor change I want.
Before I go yanking frets I'd like some opinions on the matter. Not worried about resale . This bass isn't going anywhere.

Would grinding down the offending last two frets work? It might look better - there would still be frets there, but you could grind them (maybe just on one side) low enough that the E string rests a couple frets further up the neck when you press down. I'm not sure from your description if that'd help or not.
