Anyone ever use a capo on a bass?

Only ask because I also play some guitar and often use a capo, and would be a lot easier for me to use a capo on bass if I am am recording bass lines, save transposing everything. To be honest I wouldn't have thought a guitar capo would be strong enough to fret bass strings.

Only reason I thought of it seen several photos of Paul McCartney using a Capo on his Ric
 
Capos are mainly handy if you're using an open string as a drone, as in certain chording situations. But at least for my style of playing, they'd be more of a hinderance than a help.

Though I did joke with a guitarist about holding a tree branch to the neck with some bungee cords.
