US: South Anyone from Florida?

I'm headed to Orlando this Thursday with the fam - going to try and swing by Bass Central with my bass to compare it to some others there. Just fueling GAS, not picking anything up. Fyi...
Bass Central is awesome, just don't have high expectations for the showroom. Last time I was there (years ago), the physical presence was, ahem, lacking. Still nice guys, but not a pretty place.

Yeah, I know - personally, I wouldn't want to be in the instrument selling business full-time, so I get that $$ has to be saved somewhere. It would be nice to have some sound-proofed rooms to try amps in but it is what it is.

So my wife tolerated my brief visit to B.C. and my son and I got to see some nice basses - but they were out of everything I was interested in. No Dingwalls, no Modulii (used of course), no Steinbergers (looking to try a NS CR5 radius again) and the $10k+ Alembic on the wall I didn't play because I deemed myself too unworthy to touch it.

However, I did put my hands on a Trace Elliot Elf and play through the matching 10" cab and I liked it! That little guy and two of those 10's makes for a decent little micro stack. The bass I tried with it was a Conklin Groove Tools GT-7 and it sounded great. My playing? Uh, not so much.

Grasshopper and crew were very accommodating. And it's funny to hear Grasshopper talk about his interactions with Ned and Sheldon. To me (and probably many of us) they are gods of innovation and creativity that we'll never know personally. To him they sounded like they were his buddies. (Please don't take this the wrong way or out of context - but Grasshopper shared an anecdote about an interaction he had with them at NAMM and just the non-chalant way he spoke about working with them was neat.)

Oh, if anyone needs a silver tolex Mesa M9 Carbine with matching silver tolex Powerhouse 1000 cab, they got one!

Cheers all,

Raz

Sounds like you went right past me. I do have a
few basses here nothing as pricy as what you are looking for though. Glad you had a good visit.
Hi Tom,

My visit was short and to the point, especially with my wife waiting in the car for me (and dropping her and my daughter off at the Altamonte Mall was not an option!) I'd love to pay you a visit and add another stop to my next Central FLA trip (whenever that is) as I'd like to bring my fiver down to compare/contrast tones with it.

That is, when I have the $$$ to put into another bass (like an eight string wide-neck headless with fanned frets and fiber optic color changing LED position markers. Just sayin'.)

So I'm sorry I missed you this trip, but I'd like to meet on the next one.

Best regards,

Eric

Located to Southwest Florida (Naples) from NJ a year ago. Finally looking for work/band here now that I'm finally settled. Had a multi decade career and network up north. Starting from scratch here.

There's a few decent jam sessions around town lead by working players. It's a good place to meet people. I would suggest stopping into The Dogtooth on a Tuesday night. The guys that lead that one are great players and really good people as well.

I play at The Bayhouse every Monday and Tuesday. Feel free to say hello if you are around sometime.
