Anyone gone from an Ampeg SVT3 Pro to a 7 Pro?

Howdy

Just wondering if anyone has gone from an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro to a 7 Pro? I have the 3 Pro and i like it.

However, The 7 looks cool, lighter in weight and more headroom but no Eq on the 7 Pro. The weight on the 7 Pro of only 15lbs is attractive though :-)

Any thoughts or feedback would be awesome

I did, with a few in-between.
I find the 7 pro to be far punchier & more tube like. Even tho it's 1 v 5 tubes iirc.
While the 3 certainly worked for me & had enough headroom, it just lacked a certain "something".
Tubes. Power tubes! I went back to all tube power. But grabbed a 7 pro as well for more clean headroom & weight savings.
Very happy with the 7, mildly happy with the 3.
Each to his own, but that's my 2c

The 7 Pro is my favorite hybrid amp ever because it sounds so much like an all-tube SVT, but the one thing it doesn't do is that very tight solid state thing like your 3 Pro and the 4 Pro. If that's something you find desirable, then no lightweight amp is going to work for you. But if you'd rather have a solid state amp that sounds and feels more tubey, then I don't think it gets better than the 7 Pro.

Very interesting comparisons. I would like to see a sound comparison between the 3 Pro and 4 Pro, I never hear comparisons between those two, it is usally one of them compared to the 7 Pro.

I also wish someone would compare all of them to the 8 Pro. So far all I know about that head is what I learned from the PDF manual, lol.

I tried to like my 3 Pro for years
Rolled a million tubes through it and it was never close to my SVT
The Mesa Walabout was much closer to SVT tone IMO
I went in to buy a 7 Pro but didn't fall in love as many here have done; REALLY surprised as I had the cash in hand but am currently hurting my back with SVP and iron amp

You have to A/B the 7 Pro (as with any amp) to know what will work best for you

Maybe off topic...but if you want to stay in the solid state world, I suggest looking into the more powerful GK heads. Stay away from 400's and backlines. Cheaper than Ampeg, and IMO better punch and clarity.

Then again..we all know that the quest for tone is ENDLESS!!
