Anyone Have $4,200 for a New Bass?

I actually dig the look. Not what I'd spend anywhere near that kind of money on, but if they made a lower-end version for around $600-800 I'd consider it, and I don't even play in a thrash band!

That said, everyone getting their panties in a bunch about how it's a "Randy Rhoads" bass needs to take a deep breath. The "Rhoads" refers to that offset-V shape, much like a Les Paul refers to a single-cutaway traditional-looking guitar.

UUUHH, lots of players have played stratocatsters before and after Jimi, in no way do I look at a strat and think, hey theres a Hendrix guitar. On the other hand with the RR, I don't recall seeing this shape in use before Randy Rhodes, and I think with how wildly popular this shape has been since his death, the RR name has become iconic in regards to his instrument, and RR sounds alot better than "pointy offset V bass." and if you prefer your basses to be more amoeba looking, well thats dandy, I personally have seen my fair share that I thought were ugly as sin, with blobular body shapes and overgrown upper and lower horns that seem to point in the most heinous of angles, I guess if you play one of those though people will think "oh, look at so-and-so's fancy boutique bass! They're soooo deep and artsy!" or "oh, look at so-and-so's fancy boutique bass! Those are so expensive! The player must be like, super important!" Sorry, when I see a crazy looking boutique, I can't help but think that someones trying to overcompensate for something, e.g. 45 y/o man driving Ferrari Testarossa anyone?...

I would like to see artists blatently go for the cash grab, but have fun with it (not a Geddy Lee sig Jazz, Kerry King pointy BC Rich, etc)....

A Kerry King Daisy Rock purple butterfly guitar for example.

Geddy Lee endorsing Walmart "Rocker" basses.

Les Claypool revealing that Carl Thompson basses are garbage, he has been living a lie, and now he is exclusive with Wishbass.

This kinda thing would at least be entertaining!

One could score a very nice pro level active bass and a nice amp to go with it, for that kind of money. To spend $4200 as a discounted price, on a modified V bass version of Randy Rhoads's guitar, seems rather silly to me. However, I'm sure they can find somebody with lots of play around money to spend, who will think it's cool anyways, and they'll buy it because they can, and the rest of us so called fiscally sensible people can go straight to Hades as far as such a buyer would be concerned about our opinions.

And when I see a flying V bass, I can't help but think the owner is trying to overcompensate as well.

And you really wouldn't own a Ferrari if you could afford one? ;)

I KNEW the boutique-vs-plain bass stuff was gonna come into play eventually...I'm surprised it took almost 80 posts before it became a debate :rollno:
the body shape is an ICON, just like a Fender P, the Fender-Boys also bitch about spending 4- 5grand on a C/S Fender...why? because you like it and it does what you want. I would instantly spend 4grand on a RR IF, IF that is what I wanted to play on stage and I felt comfortable doing it because it was what I really wanted.

but getting back to the overpriced Jackson products, you look at the prices of anything coming out of the Fender/Gibson C/S lately?
