Anyone have an Urge?

Good to know. Any idea of when that would be? I don't quite know when it was released. Yesterday I managed to find a Fender Frontline magazine from 1995 discussing the Urge. I was kinda planning on ordering one at the end of the year.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it would be this year or the next since I think the Urge II was released in 1997 (Stu didn't have Mel on the first G3 tour in 1996 but he did when he recorded "Show me what you can do" in 1998, I think he got it in 1997).

Gotcha, figured it was roughly that old. I'm still bummin' that I missed I missed the Yamaha Attitude 10th year. I'll be sure to be ready for this one.

I've always wondered how different is the Urge II from the Urge I tonallywise. I've played many times an Urge I identical to alembicguy's and, while versatility is a big plus for me, I haven't found a tone from it that I really like. Besides, some positions are awkward for me in the high register. Weird, since the neck is apparently very slim and comfortable.

I guess you can't make a neck that pleases everyone. I know I find the entire neck comfortable. I haven't ever been able to A/B the Urge I and Urge II....although I might once that special edition comes out.

if im not wrong, the urge is the first ever artist signature bass that fender produced. here's mine

I don't have an official Urge, but back in 80 I bought a used Fender P. Took it to a luthier and had him add the two straight jazz pups with stack tone/vol knobs. I wanted EMGs to make it active, but he persuaded me to keep it passive installing SeymorDuncan 1/4 pounders. Was my main bass 80 - 00. Still have it, but has a LOT of miles on it. Nice beefy, warm tone. OK slapper.

This set up just made sense to me. Maybe Stu saw this bass and thought "Aha!"

I'm still amazed that this bass doesn't catch on as a top seller. It's probably the best 2 in 1 bass out there. After I get the Urge II limited edition when they release it, I won't be needing any other Fender.
