Anyone have experience with the BH500?

So I was looking at the tc electronic BH500 and thought it looked and sounded pretty cool. I know they are pretty new, but I was wondering how they are. What's the characteristic sound of the amp? Is it reliable?

$500 is a pretty nice price. Is it worth it, or is it just not as good as their other stuff? Would you recommend it? I'm not really asking if you would recommend it to me, because you won't know exactly what kind of sound I want. But what kind of people would you recommend it to? i.e. "I would recommend the BH500 to people looking for x tone or people who play x music." Thank you.

They are probably still a bit too new. They have been in the danish shops for a while (danish company), if I find the time I'll try one out and get back to you, but no promises as I'm pretty busy right now. I think the reason for the lower price is that this head is larger and more "ordinary" than the ground breaking digital lightweight heads that have helped TC Electronics to get ahead in bass gear, but this is really just speculation.

I played the BH500 for the first time today with the BC210 cab and it sounds ridiculously good. The onboard tuner and presets work great. The cab is light (41lbs) and the whole rig has a very small footprint but a VERY large sound. I cant really express in words just how LOUD this puppy is. I came away very, very impressed.

To answer your question:

Its extremely versatile and cant imagine who wouldnt use this rig.

I played one today, unfortunately I didn't have the chance to push it to any kind of high gain and test out the tubetone that way, but in general it sounded very good. If it can keep up the quality of sound at higher volumes I would definitely recommend it to anyone, unless you are looking specifically for an old school authentic tube sound. It seems more hi fi than warm and crunchy to me, but then again, I couldn't drive it very hard...

Hey folks !

This head seems to be what I was looking for, for years !

Loud, power, simple options and very good price :)

Just a little question : it's mentionned to 500 w at 4 ohms but no mention in 8 ohms.
I play a Hartke 410 XL cab, which I like very much, can I use this head with this cab with no risks ?

How are people experiencing the BH500 holding up to a (loud) drummer in a live situation, or at rehearsals?
I'm looking into a switch to one, paired with two TC BC212's, but would like to know if it's be any good to make me audible for the others and myself. Thanks for any replys.

With 2 BC212 you will hardly break a sweat. If you haven't purchased yet, I'd be looking at the BH550 (its the new micro). The BH500 sounds great but it is a massive unit by current standards.
