Anyone here used/using the Ampeg SVP1600 power amp?

Just after some opinions on this beast.
-
What kind of volume levels are you getting?
What kind of g****r setups can you hold up against?
I'm concerned about the side vent ports. What kind of
rack are you using with it?
Any problems etc

I'll be using the SVPCL to drive it.

PM TB'er Hillbillyfunk, he used to own one and used it with an Alembic F1-X. I only tried it briefly, but I thought it kicked butt, but was way too heavy for my needs/taste.

I've heard one, and it was very loud. Dude was pushing three 810 cabs with it. Bass Player Mag included it in a shootout a few years ago and said it had a more compressed sound (not as dynamic) than most. They ARE heavy. IMO, unless you're getting a real deal used, most TB'ers would go for a QSC or similar (better resale, too). Of course, if you're wanting something to match your pre......:D

In a year of gigging, never had any overheating issues (have my SVPCL/SVP1600/Aphex 204 in a 6u Gator rack). I run mine into 2 cabs and have never had to push the amp hard enough live to even contemplate it getting tired. It IS heavy, though...I looked at Crown, but decided that the SVPCL was obviously paired by Ampeg w/ the 1600...it's a BAD kimosobe!
