Anyone here Wakeboard?

I go skurfing when it's flat (basically use a surfboard as a wakeboard) and used to hydroslide all the time. Never spent the cash to get a wakeboard though....

I say go for it, buy a cheapie first til you understand what you want, then make your own choices :D

I've watched people do it, and I can tell you this... that board hurts like a mother f***er... im not kidding don't you DARE do that by anybody when you first start, you can seriously injure somebody.

Second... they are as close to "Glass on Ice" as you can get... you will fall, a lot... and HARD on your ass. (Which is why you don't do it near people, you *ALWAYS* Fall backwards and launch the SHARP, heavy board forwards)


But seriously, i've seen a lot of stupid kids get too close and even experienced wake borders can lose it and fall, and when you fall, you slip backwards, and your firmly planted feet LAUNCH it forward, seen a kid get really hurt, idk what happened to him but an ambulance was on the beach and the wakeboarder felt like a jackass.



EDIT: OKAY... I was totally thinking of Skimboarding not Wakeboarding... big difference, those guys are idiots.... Here's a video of what I was talking about, that board LAUNCHES and would seriously hurt (I've been hit a few time's...)

Not exactly true,:confused: I have been pulling people out of the water for many years and it is an individual thing, newbies doin good and people who have tried it over and over suckin. The glass on ice thing is only true if you do not have a good feel for you center of gravity over the board. at any rate the worst thing that happens to people wakeboarding IMHO is catching a front edge and slamming face first into the water at light speed.:eek: killed many a future boarders:bawl:, not literally though;)

i wakeboard in the summertime when i can't snowboard =). It kicks ass...took me a while to get the 360 down cuz of the switch around the back w. the rope

and it doesn't not hurt at all...complete B.S...try snowboarding as a beginner, then try wakeboarding as a beginner, they don't even compare. idk about you but i rather fall on my face at 20mph in the water than on snow (i know from experience).

I used to go wakeboarding all the time until about 4 years ago. I picked it back up last summer and sprained my ankle, so I think I may go easy on that for a while. It was easy and a lot of fun. You better have strong arms though.

Everything's cool unless you catch your front edge, then you find yourself about 20 feet away from your board with no memory of it actually coming off.

big difference. I've seen lots of people get injured Skimboarding.

Then again you could have just edited your whole post to remove the content that you were confused about rather than writing it all and then inserting the EDIT at the very end.
