Anyone know a builder who does sandblasted / ceruse finish?

Hey all, I've recently become obsessed with the textured sandblasted look - specifically of Sandberg basses like this:

I really want a bass like that but with a roasted maple P neck. Any of the Sandberg's that I can find that aren't like a year out for delivery have a narrower nut width. I really love this black natural matte / satin look with the grain texture exposed a bit but still smooth. Anyone know any custom body finish people that could do that? I've looked high and low and even asked around at the bigger parts finish people but they don't do this. Please help Thank you!

MJT does. I’m having a ceruse finished body by them right now. Just know that they only do thin nitro with a minimum level of relic.

Wow, you're right. I see a couple similar examples on their website. That's great. I've got a couple MJT bodies already so I'm familiar with the quality. Thank you for pointing this out!

These are more of a budget/low-mid range models Aria Pro Hot Rod Collection comes in an open pore finish and roasted maple necks. 24 frets, four and five strings and JJ or JP pickup combinations.

You don't need sandblasting to do that. At the right angle, this bass looks pretty similar. It's swamp ash with Rustoleum black and Minwax satin poly over the top. You get the exposed grain look by not using filler before doing the finish. If you use gloss poly (like that Sandberg), it makes things pop a bit more.

You could have someone do that finish for you, but it's about the easiest finish there is (aside from the gloss part). Materials are available at "specialty" stores, including Home Depot and Lowes.

Heh. I built a Warmoth Jazz with a similar finish. Ended up that way because I didn't know squat about grain filling an ash body. Came out very similar, and I kinda like it!

Doesn't the cerise type of finish imply two colors? One for the deep grain and a primary one for the majority of the finish? Most of what is shown above is just a translucent stain with a satin or gloss over it....

I've done a similar finish using Rubio products. (Not that I'm offering my services ).
I brushed the ash body with a wire brush to remove the softer grain before my finish sanding. Following this, I applied Rubio Precolor Easy in Intense Black before applying finishing oil.
Turned out great!

FWIW, Sire has announced new models (PB and JB types) with sand blasted finishes on swamp ash topped bodies in quite a few colors. The necks are un-roasted maple. AFAIK, they will be available in autumn.

This is probably a rather inexpensive choice for instruments with this finish, compared to suggestions above.
