Anyone know anything about SANO?

Hey guys, I saw this thing come up in my local craigslist and I had never heard of the brand so I tried to look it up online and after a little searching I have found practically nothing. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever owned or used anything made by sano or knows about the history of the company or really anything about it at all.

Sano amps were made in the 50's by Stanley Michaels, who partnered with Everett Hull, the guy who started the Ampeg company, to make the Michaels/Hull Bassamp in 1948, the very first amp designed specifically for bass. Other than that, I couldn't tell you anything else about them, as they were way before my time and I've never seen one in the flesh.

Thanks Jimmy, that just about triples what I knew about the brand. The cab looks pretty cool. I'll probably go try it out and tell ya guys what its like.

Sorry...just looked them up on Google and found out they operated from 1950 till 1980. I thought they only operated in the 50's but was wrong. So it may not be a 50's cab after all.

I tried it today. I wasn't expecting much and it wasn't terrible or anything but it was a bit disappointing. It rattled and distorted a fair amount and I wasn't crazy about the overall tone anyway. It did look pretty cool though.

Sano made some very good sounding tube guitar amps. I have no idea what you looked at since I can't see the pic. As for bass at best a decent practice amp. And I wouldn't consider any but a tube amp. They made some cool amps. Well made and some guitarists really like them. Last one I locally a year or two ago was going for around $500. For a 40 watt 2/12 combo.

If you can get it for a good price you could flip it on ebay easily.

Guitards will pay for vintage mojo.

I picked up one of these today at a flea market for $40. It's a model 300R, about the size of a Fender Twin and it's on casters. Apparently these were designed for accordion but have a bit of a following with guitar and steel players. Speakers are a single 15" and a pair of 8s. The seller took it in trade for some furniture and said he was told it just needed tubes. Unfortunately, it needs more than that so it's going on the project list. No luck so far in finding a schematic. Output tubes are a pair of 5881s but they're Russian tubes, so not original. It may have originally had EL34s, from what I've read. Cool amp.
