Sounds like some solo piece to me, i,ve played pretty much all of Strauss tonepoems, sinfonia domestica, rosenkavalier etc... and can,t remember that.

i,m also puzzled can anybody tell us. happy new Year!

Towards the end of the YouTube recording you can see him playing the same piece with the orchestra and it's in German with Simon Rattle - so it's almost certainly the Berlin !

It sounds a very familiar tune - although I hear it in my head played in a higher register and it is unfamilar on bass...?

I have been trying to find out what piece this is as well and I found the answer. The piece is Kicho by Piazzola.

Are you sure Rob is Kicho?...
I did a youtube search of people playing that and to my ears is something else.
