Just got an email from Lou today stating that he is very close to making the Pub 2/280 happen for all of us Americans. It just goes to show how much corporations and the like have saturated the market with their crap and kept amazing products the likes of Schertler somewhat out of our reach. As double bassists, and certainly at the very least simply as bassists, I think that many of us have the tendency to explore and sample all that technology and innovation has to offer us today. Because of the positive response and large demand of these speaker systems Lou Roten is somehow making it happen. He has opened the door for others but who else might be interested in going through the same hoops to get them here? They are at a price and performance point where not only people don't even know about them but many that do can't afford to buy them anyway. I've tried all of them and the Pub is definitely where it's at. I'll be using either the Pre-AII alone or it in conjunction with a Raven Labs MDB-1 and possibly a True Blue EQ if need be. If everything falls into place hopefully I'll be a proud owner of two Pub 2/280s before the end of the year! As a reference, Rufus was recently at Birdland, NYC (I'm the sound engineer/stage manager/tech/recordist) with Lee Konitz and he was using the AMT mic and Scherlter Dyn-B into a Raven Labs PMB-II into one Pub and it sounded amazing. He had it turned up fairly loud, too. I'm sure his amazing bass (pre-Prescott/LaFaro Busetto-style with the ebony strip down the back) had something to do with it.
