Anyone seen this new Hipshot bridge?

Just noticed this on the Hipshot site...
the new "TransTone" bridge!

Their quote:

"Hipshot's New TransTone Bass Bridge features construction so sturdy you will feel the difference! "

(Does that mean it's heavy? )

Looks somewhat unusual - not totally dissimilar to the
ABM Model 2000 bridge, in that the entire string anchor
assembly is mobile with the saddle.

Looks like it all hangs
on that back setscrew for intonation adjustment, which
in turn bears on the lockdown capscrew. That arrangement
is VERY reminiscent of the old Kahler units, which were pretty
lousy in my book.

Dave is a good engineer, though, so I'm sure there are some
strong points to this bridge - I guess we'll see who is first
to use it!

I, for one, have misgivings about it....reason...I'm not a string-through fan (if I can help it), and using this bridge anchored on the saddle (top load), there doesn't seem to be enough break-angle over the saddle for my tastes....

my favourite Hipshot is still the "A" style.

I haven't found hipshots products to be all that pricey when compared to the likes of ABM and Leo Quan, for instance.

You'll pay about $100US for an Hipshot A style 4-5 string while you can get those Badasses for about $60-70US.

ABM's prices are also outrageous in my opinion. I've actually designed a 5 string bridge in Autocad Mechanical loosely based on ABM, ETS, Hipshot A style and am going to look into having a boatful of those machined locally. I'm tired of having to spend so much money into bridges everytime.

I do NOT like the intonation/saddle hold down arrangment.

at allparts.com...the hipshot is only $8 more than the quan $85 vs $78

you can, however, by a Carvin bridge which is made by hipshot for $46

let me see your design...I may be in the market for a bridge (or two) in the not-so-distant future and I can certainly help your overall costs by increasing the bulk of your order...(mine would be of the 4-string variety)

enough downward force to firmly keep the string in the slot and not create any weird vibration problems...Not saying that this is the case, but I've had cheap bridges before make some annoying "singing" noises that took some good detective work to sort out.

Well, I have a top loaded Fenderstyle bridge on my Yamaha, and it has a huge angle, and still it rattles like crazy...

Looks like another attempt at overcoming the disadvantages of using set screws as string height adjusters. This is basically fifty year old technology. Probably better than a stock Fender style, but how could it not be better than the Fender and still function as intended? I'm not impressed.

I like the look of this one, I am a fan of though the body stringing and Hipshot A brass bridges are my favourite to this day. it is cheeper too, might try it on my new fretless or might stick with the tryed and true "A"

The 'A' model looks best to me, with its adjustment possibilities. I think the Carvin/Hipshot is a model 'B'.

Why do bridges cost so dang much. You can buy whole basses for the price of some of these bridges.
