Anyone use flats only or mainly?

All of my basses have Fender 9050 flats except for my fretless which has d'Addario black nylon tape flats.
Been using only flats for almost 50 years. I tried round wound strings once or twice and I liked the sound but they just didn't feel right to me.
I left them on for a couple of weeks but just couldn't get used to them.
Must be something about old dogs and new tricks!
Woof-woof.

I played a Blues jam about 7 years ago. They furnished me with a 60's Fender P-Bass which was amazing enough. I'll never forget how great it sounded with Flat Wounds(Unknown Brand). I had been playing using round wounds for over 25 years. This P-bass was as very bright and punchier then anything I had ever used. I am very happy with the original strings on My RIC and My Jaguar. I have many many hours on the Jaguar and the original rounds are still great. I am ordering TI JF344's for the RIC this week and plan to be amazed but we'll see.

I mainly use flats on my P's. I like the way they feel and they sound great for the type of music I play. but I have a set of Hi Beams on my J and they sound awesome...don't particularly like the feel of them but they sound great.

I used round wounds for years. Its what I used when starting out and its pretty much what "everone" used. About 13 years ago I saw Bran Houser playing with Critters Buggin and he played and sounded awsome. I hit him up after the gig to talk bass and he told me that he recently started using flat wounds and said it was his best bass decision yet. So, I gave some flats a try on my fretless bass and liked it so much I ended up using them on my fretted bass as well. I've never looked back. I use Thomastik Jazz Flats/ standard gauge. They sound great when slapping too and they have a long life. I feel they make playing easier and I feel I have more control over my tone. Expensive but IMHO worth it. I use them on my Jazz Bass, Rick, and Modulus Q5.

The TI JF344 are very different; make sure you give them a fair break-in period before reaching a verdict. I use them on two basses and love'm
Thanks EC, I will definitely give them a good break in period. I cant' wait:D The RIC will be used in My Blues Band so The TI's should be Sweet. Gerry

All flats currently. Sadowsky regular gauge on my Hwy One Jazz, Sadowsky light gauge on my Squier VM fretless, Chromes on my Squier '51 P. I guess I have flats on my new-to-me Kala U Bass, as well.

I'm currently in a country/alt-country band and don't need the zing of rounds, but the Sadowskys give me more clarity than any other flat I've tried and they're in the sweet-spot for me tension-wise, smack in the middle between TIs and Chromes.

Who makes Sadowsky flats?

You are very welcome. The TIs may be even lower tension than the rounds you are using, so I'd give Sadowsky Black Label Flats (light gauge) a serious look. They were about the same tension as standard gauge (.105) Rotosound SwingBass 66s.

I use LaBella 760FLs on my Ric in my blues/Allman bros type band and it sits so well in the mix. I want to put TIs on one of my other Zrics but I think I am gonna try the DR flats first.
