Anyone using ambient effects pedals on bass?

For more ambient and atmospheric sounds I am using a combination of Source Audio Artifakt LoFi Elements and Zoom MS70CDR or CDR+. In the past I had several older rack effect units but these two pedals make it so much easier to design spaces. The CDR+ is a great price and the sounds are outstanding but you have to have an iOS device for editing or brave menu diving on the unit.

I do keep eying the Strymon Cloudburst for it's beautiful sounds, someday perhaps.

Jump into the ambient thread as suggested…
Beware there is ALOT of posts hah - might be easier to google search specific ambient + talkbass to maybe find a post on what you want…

In the past my main ambient was hardwired dl8 delay into carbon copy delay, ps3 pitch shifter, walrus all or afterneath reverb.
Have a few actual synths now too to bill it out…
Like using fuzz and wah into that chain above
Sold all my delays off over the years though and considering a boss gx100/10 instead given the price factor of replacing so many on the board anyway!

Yes, but very limited. I use the helix’s Reverb: Shimmer on The slow part of Ghost’s ‘Jesus he knows me’ (and the ending note) and the end note of Blink 182’s ‘all the small things’. That’s it.

I'm using a Walrus Badwater into the Lore Reverse Soundscape Generator, in to the Slötvå. I'm also placing a Ditto+ looper at the end. I love the sounds I've been playing with, as I just got the Badwater and Lore in the past few weeks.

I'm playing six string fretted and four string fretless Cirrus basses.

El Cap v2, with or without the reverb, paired with some modulation (phaser or chorus), and some fuzz (Calamity) does great ambient stuff for me. Octaver works great with it too. Basically, any effect into my El Cap can be turned into an ambiental wash.

...ambient stuff, was wondering what other users here are using for that style of stuff (and if any of them have any experience using an octave pedal with them?

Take your pick:

Note that the pedalboard in the first photo is configured such that the octave box (Electro-Harmonic POG2) can be switched between being before, or after, or in between (!) the various looping delays, allowing for some wonderfully dynamic, evolving ambient sounds, especially if I use the different octave voice sliders like a mixing console in realtime.

I was thinking about this topic today. Specifically, what kinds and what quantities of "thickening" (like modulations, pitch, ambience, and other washiness) can be added to a bass sound even to extremes, while still sounding like an organic instrument and not so much like a synth-- and also functioning like a bass in the mix, particularly with ballads or slow tempo long note stuff.

I have a Zoom MS-70CDR+ and there are lots of opportunities to stack & layer modulation, ambience, etc. And I could use the Portal to allow a dry mix/thru so low end could be protected.

How's the Lore? I'm intrigued but does it offer some variety creating sounds or is it just reverse reverb?

It has quite a bit to offer but more-so for higher pitched stringed instruments like guitar or harp. It's more applicable with long-standing chords or repetitive, higher pitched attenuations. So its bass applications are limited, even in an ambient sense although they sound very good. I much prefer the Slötvå for practical applications and ease of use.

That’s helpful, cheers.

Adding my vote for “hell yeah” I use ambient effects. Here’s my board

Things go into the Tensor > Volante > Mood > Mercury7 > Looper, all in stereo. Add some more reverb down stream via the H9, some modulation, and now we’re cooking

I also recommend watching “Chords of Orion” on YouTube, he’s a great ambient guitar player whose music I enjoy, but also does some nice videos on his workflow and approach, which I find inspiring.
