Double Bass AP Music Theory Class

Hey guys, whats up, its been long since i posted. As of right now i am a junior in high school, we are required to pick our classes for next year within the next month or so, and my school is offering a virtual high school AP music theory class. I was wondering if any of you have ever taken it, online or not. Just some feedback on how it was, if you enjoyed it, etc.

dude just take it, it will help you in so many way. Theory is tough for some but bass players especially need to know harmony, that's what we do...

I did AP Music Theory in High School. I was really glad I did because I had a nice head start to most kids in my music program in college. That said my college did not accept the AP credit. From my understanding that is not uncommon. Many music programs want you to learn theory 'their way'. It laid a great foundation for my learning though.

i did not take theory in HS. i knew the basics of triads, but nothing of functional harmony or anything like that ((my highschool cut music theory the year i was able to take it. "the budget wouldent allow it." the budget allowed a new football field though.. sigh..)

anyway, i then went to college as a music major and had to take rudiments of music.. (non-credit theory.) while i aced it and it was easy, i'm behind a semester because of it.

although it was nice to get to really refresh and learn everything in that particular class, (wich was perhaps better than what a highschool would offer?) it still screwed me a bit.

my point is, take music theory if you can in highschool. this is all aside from the fact that its stuff that will help you so much. infact, not knowing it completely disables you as a musician.

I took it as well. My college wouldn't accept the credit either but it was still worth it. Didn't really learn any new theory in college until my second year. I highly recommend taking the class.

I took it in High School, awesome class... sadly, Berklee wouldn't take the credit, but, in large part because of that course, I already knew 90% of what they wound up teaching me in "Harmony" class... fantastic primer and reinforcer for those into the academics of theory, IME..
