Double Bass Appreciation For The Double Bass Workshop in Madison, WI

All of us double bass players in the midwest are lucky to have Vince Jesse at the Double Bass Workshop in Madison, WI. I finally got around to returning to the double bass after not having one for twenty years. After lurking on the the forums for months, it was clear that the most important starting point is getting a good setup by someone you can trust. Vince's shop in Madison was a great place for a newcomer to try out many different basses, and to get honest, no-pressure advice about such a large investment. Vince is a true craftsman - passionate about his work and rightly proud of his excellent work. I highly recommend the Double Bass Workshop for the outstanding quality and service.

Here are pictures of my final setup:
Shen 88 oil-varnish finish
Pirastro light Evah Pirazzi strings
Fishman Full Circle pickup
Acoustic Image Ten2 Amp

I have to agree with you, Doug. Vince is so good at what he does. I have a carved Knilling bass which is at best a good gigging bass that you can take out in all kinds of weather. I was ready to get rid of it but instead I let Vince spend a few days working on it. It came back a completely transformed instrument. I still get compliments on the tone and the bass inspires me to play better and improve.
