from listening to the recording numerous times it is difficult for me to discern what exactly the bassist is doing... is this tune really a free-for-all for the bassist i.e. free rhythm - hit the G# pedal or root from time to time and wing it otherwise? Am i missing something obvious?
To me it seems like the drums really do a lot of the heavy lifting here as far as the rhythm section is concerned
