Old Bassist, new here in TalkBass

I'm Dan from Rochester, NY. Been playing bass for 45 years, 35 professionally and semi-professionally. Have toured with Chris Beard, and also played with his dad the legendary blues artists Joe Beard. Currently playing with Son Henry in a number of groups and hosting a monthly blues retrospective in Rochester honoring Eddy "Son" House who was rediscovered in Rochester in 60s.

Blues is not my only thing. I'm a punk at heart and I'm also classically trained on Double Bass. People ask me what kind of music I play, and my response is typically, "The kind that pays the bills." If I'm not particularly fond of a tune I'm playing on stage, you will never know it.

I also have a day job as a music librarian and conservator, preserving and binding written music at Sibley Music Library at The Eastman School of Music, where I have scanned and published for free over 20,000 (well, my staff helped too) scores in the public domain. You can most easily find these at IMSLP where they have mirrored our work.

My current preferred setup is a Bugera Veyron M BV1001M through a 1X15 Bugera Cab or a 2X10 GK Cab (or both if the venue calls for it. And two years ago I fell in love with a Fender Aerodyne J/P bass which brought me back to 4 string playing and I also have a Shen 3/4 Double Bass; both sound amazing through my rig.

I will most likely be lurking here, but if you have questions about historical music, punk music (how Paul Simonon went from knowing nothing to a master of reggae), free jazz, Swing and blues, soul, R&B, New York in the 70s... etc. just reach out.

I've been exploring classical guitar for a few years. There's lots of information about Spanish composers, but I've had a hard time tracking down French and Russian music, and found very little on Italians. Where are some good places to look for these composers? And are there any other countries that had interesting guitar music coming out of them?

I would search for French Baroque Guitar as opposed to "classical" and am sure you'd have more success for France. Let me think about Eastern Europe. I'm not so sure there's guitar history as rich as Spain and France but there may be an anolog for guitar-ish plectrumed instruments or fingered stringed instruments.

Although I did find a dissertation on The New School of Russian and Easyern European Classical Guitar by Christopher E Pfeifer. But you need credentials to access it

I know the Russians really loved the seven string guitar, but that's about all I know. And there were some virtuosos out of Italy who were quite famous in their day. I doubt they were all playing Spanish music though, so what were they playing?

I miss the days of a Google search giving you more information than you could use on a topic
