Are bassists more gear / tech savvy?

I taught myself how to repair and build amps, effects, guitars and basses, as well as speaker cabinets. I worked as an authorized amp tech from 1980 on, despite no formal schooling.

Yes, I can hold my own in the tech and saavy dept.

Regarding bass gear, yes bassists seem to generally know more about bass gear than guitarists.

Related technical? How related is "related"?

You talking Effects loops or differences between parallel and series?

I don't think ones choice in their primary instrument is not an indicator as much as it's more about general aptitude.

Someone who's an engineer will probably be a bass gear nerd too. I have a friend (who shall go unnamed) who is a brilliant bassist and total cluck brain when it comes to pulling his head out of his butt about gear, acoustics/physics, etc.

As a blues player, no. I plug in my bass to the amp/di, adjust pickup volumes, tone, and constantly say "Come on guys, not loud enough!"
