In your experience are bass players more knowledgable regarding gear and the related technical issues than other band members?

Regarding bass gear, yes bassists seem to generally know more about bass gear than guitarists.

Related technical? How related is "related"?

You talking Effects loops or differences between parallel and series?

I don't think ones choice in their primary instrument is not an indicator as much as it's more about general aptitude.

Someone who's an engineer will probably be a bass gear nerd too. I have a friend (who shall go unnamed) who is a brilliant bassist and total cluck brain when it comes to pulling his head out of his butt about gear, acoustics/physics, etc.
