I like to see the grain of the wood, and the bursts add a bit of interest to the finish. Just have to get some tort for the guitar too!

I would say absolutely not. This is my latest bass. Love it completely...
I'm a lefty so I don't generally have the luxury of color choices. Burst is fine, solid is fine, whatever. As long as it plays well and isn't black, then I don't really care.
They make burst finishes? And what’s this tort you speak of? LOL
In?!?! Out?!?! It is completely irrelevant. Buy and play what you like and don't bother about what anyone else thinks or says.
I think they look great, but don't have a bass with a burst, I think natural finishes are having a moment now
To me it just looks like an electric guitar if its a tri color sunburst Fender Jazz, Precision, or strat - it just feels normal to me from my point of reference. Having said that I'm looking seriously at some natural finishes that look pretty cool to me these days - particularly like the G&L JB-2 in natural, or perhaps the Paranormal Squire Jazz in natural without that super ugly pickguard covering up all that nice wood grain.
Well out of 20 basses I currently own, FIVE are burst. Imo sunburst is still the standard! Pic is of 2006 Highway 1 P-Bass with black metal guard.
Hmm, I just bought a tobacco burst Sandberg California. I didn't know I was triggering anyone.

I think it comes and goes - right now burst finishes are sort of seen as a very 70's or 90's thing and with the 80's being back so strong currently, they're not in fashion. Give it a few years and people will get nostalgic for Nirvana and Pearl Jam again and we'll see burst finishes make a come back.

3) Don't care what other people think, unless you have a true character flaw. Then, address that. Your favorite bass finishes don't rate!
I haven't traditionally liked bursts, but I've had to take the whole instrument into account. I had a Rick 4001 with a matte tobacco brown sunburst, with black pickguard. THAT looked good. I'm sad that I let it go.
I do have this. It is kind of a subtle cherry burst in a way - there is yellow/orange too. It's matte. It didn't annoy me. I kinda' like it.
No. My '76 MusicMan Stingray and '66 Fender Jazz are time pieces and represent first model finishes manufactured. '88 MusicMan blue burst Ray coincidence. Black maple neck '78 Precision also iconic, '08 black MusicMan SR5 HP both because I have a thing for black. My high-end basses are wood grain. Also a preference because I love the look of natural wood. Faded vintage Olympic White Fender Jazz is on the bucket list but wouldn't go out of my way to buy another burst unless it was vintage. Not big on colored finishes. Sparkle and seafoam green make me grab for a vomit bag. But as many have proffered, you do you. No one else matters.
