Are burst finishes out?

I like a burst finish. I only have two basses with bursts, so it wouldn’t hurt to buy a few more.
The only thing that’s out is worrying what others think

I remember seeing, way back when I started playing, a bunch of fancy paint jobs on Epiphone Thunderbirds, one of which was a metallic grey burst.

My new Jazz bass is a burst so I do not believe they have fallen out of favor with everyone
I don't think bursts will ever go out of style, but the new trend nowadays is the "reverse burst" where it's black/dark in the middle and gradients out lighter toward the edges.
I don’t hate them. They can be quite lovely. That said, I like solids or natural better.
Bursts are very popular and if they were going out of style it wouldn’t be an option every year on every model. Rock the burst of it’s your thing.

Playing a sunburst bass wearing big bellbottoms and platform shoes is the ultimate style choice.
Yes, bursts are out. That's why I'm selling my 68 precision and putting that money on something with a sparkle paint job, preferably purple.
Over the past year?!?! Pfft, it's been one of the most consistent anti-something topics I've seen on Talkbass since joining. It seems that just about any other anti-something topic gets stopped immediately but I'm not sure I've ever seen anything done about anti-burst outbursts.
Personally, I don't care if you absolutely hate bursts. No one likes everything. But I don't get why being an ass about bursts gets tolerated as much as it does when criticizing just about any other aesthetic is usually rewarded with an "Inactive" status.

Yes. Burst finishes are proudly and openly gay.
And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
My #1 is a transparent orange "tobacco" burst and, while I love that bass, I would not buy another sort of burst on the basis of appearance alone. The transparent finishes are nice but the standard bursts are a little too old-school for my taste. So yes, I'm ok with something that's "burst-like" but I prefer something that isn't so traditional.
