I have both and greatly prefer the cat as it doesn't stink and can handle it's own bathroom issues. I always had dogs growing up on the farm, but they stayed outside and helped us hunt. I liked them fine then. When I married my wife and was introduced to the inside dog concept I was not too happy. If I had property, I'd have beagles outside. But we live in town, and we've both come to the agreement that this is probably our last dog. There's just something off to me about having a dog on a lot with a 30' by 30' yard, or trailing behind an animal with a bag of poop.

or trailing behind an animal with a bag of poop.
They make bag holders that are cute, or "fashionable".

But you are still carrying bags of crap, and throwing away five or more plastic bags a day.

Excerpts from the Cat's Daily Diary:

Day 583 of my captivity:

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and myself are fed canned hash or some sort of stale dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape ... In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the floor.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am.

The audacity! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to best use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released -- and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously ********! The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. The captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe ... for now ...

Me, I sit at the window and stare endlessly at freedom.

At what? They do different things. I like both.
I like both to. But I think if I had a chance I'd get a dog

But honestly this thread was just created just for fun and not to be taken seriously......I started thinking afterward that this thread might create some sort of "dog vs cat" war....but thankfully it hasn't turned into that

"Are Dogs better than Cats?" Better? Well no, just like a precision is not "better" than a jazz bass. Some people prefer dogs and Precisions, others prefer Jazz basses and cats. (Nobody is perfect.) ;)

My wife and I own two Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, we are both involved in pet rescue. I like cats just fine, but dogs fit our personalities and lifestyle better.

That's the best thing I've read on talkbass in years - thanks for sharing!
