Are epiphone basses any good?

The EB-3 is a fun modding guitar, and it's nice because Gibson don't make a 34" SG bass.

You get a full-scale SG for 1/4 of the price, spend a little bit more upgrading the neck pickup and bridge, and BOOM you've got a dangerous firearm on your hands.

I went and played an Epi EB-0 at GC this weekend. I remember not liking them. My tastes have changed. What a nice instrument. I'm now GASing. Is sounds downright lovely with a pick. I've never been a pick player, but am now trying to add that to my skillset, and I think that this bass would really make that a delightful process.
I too have started fooling around with a pick again since buying my EB-0. Was a full time pick player in the 90's then left it forever. Now I can see mixing the two styles together. My old pick techniques came right back to me too. I especially like the effect of palm muting with steady picking. Sounds very good on the EB-0.

Omg yes. Played it that way at open mic tonight. This bass is so very nice.

The Casady is an excellent bass althought the egronomics are funky - I had one - loved the sound but let it go because it just wasn't comfortable to play with that big fat, long body. I believe that bass has special QC that Casady himself was/is involved in.

I had a Rumblekat that I sent back - it was a lemon - nut was attached crooked and all f-d up and it was about 1/2 inch deep - I hear they're usually quite good, although I didn't care for "cavern style" pups either - almost no sound down by the bridge.

I sat with their TBird Pro the other day for about half an hour and I was very impressed by everything - probably going to buy one. Would never buy a Gibson TBird with the choice of paying 1/3 the money for an Epi that's probably as good or better. Gibson gouges you for the name.

Found an Epi EB-3 in a pawn shop last week for $200. After a proper set up and some minor tweaking/modifications I have to admit that it's a pretty dham good instrument. NeckDive has leveled off with the strap button moved to the tip of the upper horn but it's still an issue for me. Once I get that sorted she'll be golden.

Just picked up a practically brand new (used) EB-0, still had the plastic on the pick guard, he said it was only played a few times and it certainly appears so. Got it for $150. Best $150 Ive ever spent on a bass, I'll tell you that :) I love low end thump, I have no problems with the stock pickup. I will be putting some flats on it ASAP though.

It's surprising how many touring bands from South America and Europe use Epiphone guitars and basses. i have a few of em and there all very high quality. I love em. For what it is worth I have a Squire or 2 and don't care for them and never play them. But I will gig with the Epiphone.
