Are finger players a dying breed

I just watched 2 hours of rock videos and not one bass player used his fingers. All pick players I have nothing against pick players I think it looks cool.i play only fingers the only picking I do is my nose I did notice that all of them were under 40 years of age. I guess a new generation thing or they were guitar players at one time

Nope +1. I use both and have for the longest. Some music lends itself to pick playing but a lot doesn't. I think it says more about what you're listening to than defining any overall trend.

You get a certain snappy grind with a pick that you dont get with your fingers. It just works for a lot of rock music.

Nope. Playing bass with a pick goes all the way back to the 50's. Along with finger-style and slap, another technique you can bring in for certain things where appropriate.

I've noticed alot of pick use in clips from the '60s and '70s....And lots of finger-use currently.

Lately,I've taken to playing some Cheap Trick where some healthy chord strumming demands a pick....While I prefer playing the rest of the song with my fingers.

I've noticed the exact same and it seems trendy with a stock-ish sound

Usually young players use to mimic their idols..so I guess that finding young players playing with a bass with a pick is normal. I used to hang my guitar very low because I wanted to look like James Hetfield. After a while I realised that it was very unconfortable so year after year my guitar was getting closer to my shoulders)

I started to use fingers because I saw Stanley Clarke playing "School Days" and I wanted to play like him (I'm so far from that BTW)

I guess that chosing one option or another depends on who your musical references are

I've been on a 90's alternative kick lately. Many of those bass lines were done with a pick. I still force myself to play those songs finger style because I feel it improves my technique more.

Yes, because they are constantly on the internet trying to put shame on people who use a pick. So they forget to practice and can't get a gig anymore #realbassistusetheirfingers
