Are the flatwound strings good for rock ?

Fender does not publish string tension info like D'Addario does. But the construction is similar, so you will be in the ballpark (give or take a pound or two) by comparing chromes tension in their tension guide.

That's one reason why I like the Fender 9050CL 45-60-80-105 set: very balanced in tension and feel, along with tone, economics, etc.

Another item often overlooked by those who play and recommend flats of various brands:

The outer wrap on a Fender E string is narrower side-to-side than the corresponding outer wrap on the A string, so that the E string retains more flexibility, and therefore more tone over time, than a lot of other flats.

I have recently discovered the GHS pressurewound strings. Very nice. They have an almost flat feel and sound....good tight tension and a still a little round wound zing.

I'm not a flats guy, but I needed a thumpier sound for band I'm in. I put a set of fender flats on my thumb and fell in love with the tone. I don't miss rounds on it at all. I've tried DR flats and hated them, chromes were good, but the fenders have something special to them. Plus green silks are great looking.

D'Addario Chromes stay brighter than many other flats, have a tighter tension that can aid in aggressive playing and sound great!

I like the ECB 84's. I've tried the ECB 81's and 82's. The 84's feel the most balanced to me out of the three sets.

Flats are great for rock. My favorites are Thomastik-Infeld, but I voted Chromes because not everyone likes a very low-tension string like TI for rock, and Chromes are the opposite of that.

I like flats fine for rock too.

The TI's sound great to me, but I find them difficult in playability (low tension and to me they feel the stickiest of the various flats I've tried)

Daddy Chromes work well for me. Higher tension (although plenty of other flats are higher) and fairly bright but with plenty of thump.

flats are great for rock, they give you that nice fatter sound with less string noise, I played my bass with flats on in my band yesterday and my bandmates were surprised

I used the Fender 9050cl balanced set on My Rick 4003, and it made the Rick really come to life. iiipopes is right they do have growl and they will cut through the mix pretty well. I'm thinking of trying a set on my Thunderbird to see what happens. I can't seem to get any response from anyone if they had tried flats on a bird. Since they are not real expensive I will probably give them a try eventually.
