I love all five I own. This one is my fave. You don't have to spend a lot of money, and therefore you're not afraid to modify and refinish them to suit your needs.

Are Wish Basses getting any better?

Call me crazy, but I would love to take that company over and make some really sweet, quality instruments out of them.
Folks; An honest question ... I currently own 5 Wishbasses, 1 Wishnevsky Banana bass and 1 Wishnevshy electric solid-body guitar, so I do have a cross section. What I have noticed over this last year of buying these guitars is that while I don't think they are neccessarily getting better, they aren't getting worse either. What may be an issue with one is not always an issue with another. The problems one might encounter with one of Wish's instruments seem to vacillate somewhat from instrument to instrument, but not in the same way. For example, one Lobe I bought had a pretty good finish on it, versus another one on which the finish was just awful. String spacing varies, neck thickness varies and fitment can be all over the map depending on the woods used. While this can be frustrating, I have not found any problems that could not be corrected quite easily with some care and attention to detail, which seems to be the biggest missing link. So, this becomes precisely what attracts me to his work - it demands you particapate and once you do that, the results can be quite dramatic and very satisfying. Wish is not about getting better, I think he is building what he wants to build, using a philosphy that is his own and if you don't like it, well ... there's always Guitar Center!
Pound for pound though, Wish builds a very unique product that resonate with enough folks to support his way of life. I find that refreshing in itself! If I had the money, I'd buy his bass business, but then I would be stuck with the dilemna of putting too much detail into the things and then having to charge a lot more money than everyone is used to paying. So - I say enjoy them for what they are, (at these prices) while we can! Sand on, gentlemen!

I think Wish basses have seen a bit of a turnaround! At first they were bashed wholesale but slowly, they have found a following! Maybe a guy on the forums here or there who is interested and has a bit of spare cash going...
...I've seen in a few cases, a bit of work has been done by the buyer to clean things up and they've come away with a really good bass! So much so that, if I had the spare cash I'd consider ordering a simple Peanut to work on myself!

Out the box my WishBass was playable. It's one thick five piece neck so I believe Steve W when he says there's not need for a truss rod. Floating bridge is simple and works - intonation on mine is spot on. Finish out the box isn't great, but there's the hook: what a great project for the long winter nights!
