Are you getting bass gear for Christmas?

When my wife does the ol’, “You have everything. What could I possibly get you for Christmas?” I always reply with something sweet like, “All I need is you!” And then I throw in a few requests for some piece of gear I never seem to want to spend money on, but would be cool to have. This year, it’s a new reverb pedal. She’s always good about getting me gear for Christmas or birthdays bc she knows that’s a category where I’ll always want something more. ;)

What bass-related goodies are you asking for this Christmas?

Seriously running out of justifiable options for bass gear. So I got my wife to get me a expression pedal for my pitch fork. The little, silver Moer one with the extendable saddles. Might turn out to be a flop but not too expensive (anyone else tried or have one?).

My gift to myself this year. It’s a Tony Franklin that I got in trade awhile back that I just finished modifying: Hipshot Kickass bridge, replaced black pearl pg with tort (of course!), Lollar P + Dimarzio Ultrajazz (although I have a Duncan Apollo that I want to try), and a Warmoth (fretted) neck: roasted flame maple, graphite rods. All I can say is the bass is greater than the sum of the parts. Notes jump outta this thing like no other bass I own. Total keeper.

Man, I got lucky with the fretwork on the neck. I’ve got low action right out of the box. The only downside is the truss adjustment require me to loosen the neck to get access. But I seemed to have guessed correctly by adding a half twist before mounting and setup as the neck has settled in perfectly.

Now I have the best of both worlds as it’s easy to switch back to fret less if I like.

as much as i've played music, i've never asked for music stuff for holidays/birthdays. i'm sure i could have, especially when i was younger, but somehow i always kept it separate from my 'playtime' with family. that didn't stop some loved ones from trying to deck me out so i'd "look better." :laugh:

I’ve never asked my wife or boys for any gear at Christmas.

Once in a while I’ll buy a new bass or bass related gear. Over the years I’ve run into so many hard-to-resist bargains that I’ve gotten to the point where I can say “that would be nice” without actually buying the item.

I guess the GAS is gone... for how long? No one can really tell.

Kind of, sold an f-bass and it hurt a little but it got me a r string f-bass that made me happy. Trading a Nordy that is kind of sentimental bit getting a 4-string Nordy in return. So, I count them as Christmas gifts:)

Boss GT1B. I had gone back and forth between it and the Zoom B3N but decided on the Boss. Wife got it and it’s under the tree. A week ago I scooped up the Zoom also in a local Craigslist trade. Bonus Christmas present. :)

GT1B is a great pedal. It has limitations of course. The overdrives and distortions are noisy if used too hevily, and the decay on them not pretty. But it has good reverbs and echoes, it has a good octave generator and envelope follower, and many of the modulation effects are more than good enough. Some of the synth-y stuff it can do is also pretty cool.

One of my fave tunes to do with this box is Zep’s Heartbreaker. Leslie sim, plus some OD. Not nearly as much OD as on the record, where JPJ played the song thru a maxed-out 147, but some. Sounds great with the band, especially since my guitarist is NOT one of those guys who has to play every part. He plays it the way Page did on the record, lays out where he should, and lets the bass carry the rhythm.
