If you read carefully, it doesn't sound like John Taylor ever actually owned the basses. The CL guy helps the bass tech search out basses, there were more than Taylor could try, the tech never got paid for them and then the CL guy bought them from the tech. Other than the title of the listing, it doesn't sound like Taylor even played them, let alone owned them.

And be careful or he will report your suspicious/repetitious messaging to the FTC. Although I'm sure he doesn't know who they are or what they do.

Well, it's not a standard SB-1000CB. I owned one until very recently. The regular model has the cat eye inlays, and is fretted.

Regular model sells for around this used. The list is $2500.

It's funny he has it in a Peavey case. The instrument looks much like a G-Bass which come in the same case.

I wouldn't believe Taylor played it unless he has the documentation to prove it. Unfortunately, people lie.

yup....bet he never even touched it...if this was used on a recording in the 80s...and it could be proven, it might be worth something...now it is "just another bass"...

But yeah I'd keep looking for a legit Aria bass like this, especially one with an actual document of authenticy because you'll never know if someone is just trying to jip ya!
It's ridiculous, but a lot of people are like that now a days...

ARIA SB1000 Bass Rare '02 Fretless owned by John Taylor of Duran Duran - $1525 (fenton)

This Aria Pro II SB1000 RI (Reissue) bass is a top specimen with the highest Motsumoko build quality, playability and sound you will ever encounter in an ARIA SB1000. I bought it from a tech who worked for Duran Duran. I helped the tech search out gear for Duran Duran's reunion and JT ended up receiving more models from Aria and Markbass than he even had time to try out. JT told the tech I was welcome to whatever of the extra instruments I wanted but I had to pay the tech who hadn't yet been reimbursed by Duran Duran's management. I'm only selling due to financial hard times.

The reissue SB1000's have the advantage of being lighter, with more robust electronics (especially a redesigned MB1 pickup) than their vintage predecessors. The original '78 through '86 SB1000's are known for having their pickups go bad and they are molded with epoxy on the back so they're non repairable. If you're a fan of these basses you may have noticed how many end up for sale with replacement pickups/electronics. I once owned an '84 that someone had fitted with a Bartolini pickup and preamp and it sounded good; it just didn't have that signature sound the SB1000's were revered for. For other vintage SB1000's I have owned, I've had to obtain NOS pickups and pre-amps because, after thirty years the pickup(s) and preamps tend to just, well die. So the reissues certainly have their advantages! It also has modern pop-out battery slots for the 2x9 volt batteries necessary for the 18 Volt pre-amp.

I am not much of a fretless player and so this instrument was used only on a handful of recording sessions and stored in a secure, smoke-free recording studio where I work. The bass does have the usual minor hairline scuffs on different areas of the body. There is also minor fingerboard wear under the E-string from the round-wound strings; a common occurrence with fretless fingerboards.

However, I played the bass so infrequently that in my twelve years of ownership I never changed the strings and they are far from dead! The bass has maybe 6-8 hours of playing time on it! The protective plastic is still on the control cavity cover on the back of the bass!

Another cool detail (see pics) is that the tone selector switch's positions are marked by small gold marbles embedded in the finish!

A Peavy hard shell case is included that fits the bass perfectly. As you will see in my photos the case has sustained damage to one of the corners. This damage happened BEFORE it was used to store this bass. However, it still securely protects the instrument.

I have one that kinda, maybe, sorta looks like something he might have wanted when he was just learning to play bass. It should be worth a couple of grand a least.
