My primary instrument for 15 years was drums, but these days I don't actually own any drum gear (too noisy and impractical for home use).

I've actually played guitar longer than any other instrument. I can also find my way around a piano/keyboard, and some brass instruments.

For the past five years, bass has been my main instrument, but I own guitars and keyboards (midi controllers) that I use for.home jams and also for recording tracks for my band.

I used to be multi instrumental. I still know a bit of drums, piano and guitar. But I play only bass right now. I think it's good to know what other instruments can do and what their role is in the music.

I was a child spouse in an arranged marriage and forced onto woodwinds because I got assigned 4th and not the 2nd or 3rd period music class in junior high school. We separated when I went into the Army. Years later I had a long flirtation with the guitar which ultimately lead to a one night stand. But I was seen and then immediately offered a bass chair. And we got married at first sight.

I started on accordion lessons at the age of 9 in 1961 and within a few years I taught myself piano, guitar and bass. Five years ago I had a stroke that messed with my right side and took my ability to play accordion, guitar and piano effectively. I've been playing mostly bass for few decades so I managed to retrain myself on bass since my right hand thumb, index and middle fingers were slightly less effected by the stroke. Also I had a show scheduled a couple of days after I was released from the hospital so I worked real hard on getting my right and left hands to coordinate again, not miss strings with my right and simplified my parts. I was able to play bass at that show and every one since.

So, bass is all I play now.

I must confess that I have been through too much gear these past three years.

Bass has been my primary instrument since the late 80s and I dink around with guitars.

The last two bass trades were definitely "trading up" and have resulted in what I think are the perfect basses for me; a 2013 SMBB Ray34CA and a 2014 Fender Standard Precision.

I purchased the Squier Telecaster in 2022 which provides the Telecaster Twang that I love so dearly. It plays great and looks stunning. As well, the last guitar trade brought me an astounding Epiphone ES-335 that I will never get rid of.

These four are "Keepers" and I have everything I "need" sonically. I am done buying stringed instruments.

I took piano lessons as a young teenager but I haven't touched one in a couple of decades. Given time I could play one again. But I don't play anything else now, bass is all I need.
